Europa League hands Spurs advantage in Pedro Neto pursuit
According to GiveMeSport, as reported by Sunderland Echo, Tottenham Hotspur hold the advantage over Newcastle United in their pursuit of Pedro Neto because they can offer him European football next season, which the Tyneside club cannot.
Spurs’ fifth-place finish in the Premier League last season means they will play in the revamped UEFA Europa League this season.
Newcastle United, on the other hand, are set to miss out on European football altogether despite their seventh-place finish because of Man United’s FA Cup win.
Neto continued with his scintillating performances last season as an underrated Wolves side under Gary O’Neil finished comfortably mid-table despite having been touted by many as relegation contenders at the start of the season.
These numbers also hint at Neto’s consistent struggles with injuries. Ever since arriving at Wolves ahead of the 2019/20 season, the 24-year-old has missed a staggering 108 games for both club and country.
Valued by Transfermarkt at €55 million (£46.3 million at the time of writing), Neto’s current contract at Wolves, fetching him £50k per week, is set to run until June 2027, so while Wolves may want to play hardball over him with his potential suitors, said suitors will understandably be turned off by Neto’s injury record.
Only for the right price
Wolves paid €17.9 million to Lazio to buy Pedro Neto five years ago. By virtue of his talent, and with three years remaining on his contract, they would want to make a big profit on him, but they also need to be realistic about their chances of the same given the many, many injuries he has sustained.
This summer, they might be able to at least make a profit with his sale, but it’s unlikely his suitors would want to match the aforementioned €55m mark.

Even though Neto is a player who would serve Ange Postecoglou well, expect Daniel Levy to be quintessentially frugal over a move for him, and he’d be right to do so.
