Borussia Dortmund set to rival AC Milan for Tottenham Hotspur defender Emerson Royal
According to Premier League Brasil, German club Borussia Dortmund are set to rival AC Milan for the signature of Tottenham Hotspur defender Emerson Royal, with the player keen on securing an exit from the N17.
The 25-year-old has been continually linked with a move to Milan in recent weeks with the two clubs in constant negotiation over a transfer fee. Until now, Spurs have not been content with what the Italian side have offered.
Standing firm in their stance to not sell the player has helped Tottenham drum up some interest as the entry of Borussia Dortmund now sets the cat among the pigeons. With the entry of the German club, AC Milan need to be more proactive in their negotiations.
Since Spurs have decided to sell, they would be willing to sell to whichever club offers them the kind of money they are expecting. Thus, this becomes a race between Dortmund and AC Milan to secure his signature.
Tottenham have already rejected two offers from AC Milan for the player. The 25-year-old wants to leave the club in search of regular game time but is already back at Hotspur Way, training for the new season.
It is this kind of professional commitment that made Ange Postecoglou comment that the ex-Barcelona man has an ‘unbelievable work ethic’. Despite a transfer being in the works, he is back training at the club.
A versatile defender who really helped Postecoglou in times of crisis last season, deputising at both left-back and centre-back, it’s kind of disappointing that the presence of Pedro Porro means Emerson is unlikely to ever get regular game time.
The 25-year-old is at a stage of his career where he needs to be a regular starter at the next club he moves to. Having lost his Copa America berth with the national side, Emerson Royal will be keen to make a comeback.
