Rennais reject Bayern Munich bid for highly-rated Tottenham target Desire Doue
Stade Rennais’ highly-rated youngster, Desire Doue, has become a hot commodity this summer, attracting interest from several top European clubs including Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, Man United and of course, Tottenham Hotspur.
The 19-year-old left winger has had an impressive 2023-24 season, making 43 appearances and contributing four goals and six assists across all competitions. Bayern recently made a serious move, putting forward a bid worth €35m, including bonuses, in an attempt to edge out the competition. However, Stade Rennais rejected the bid, deeming it insufficient to meet their valuation of the talented teenager.
Spurs, in particular, seem to be taking a proactive approach. Moreover, according to Ben Jacobs, the Lilywhites are currently leading among Premier League clubs in the race for Doue. They have already initiated contact with the player’s representatives and opened discussions with his club.
The Desire for Doue
Munich’s interest should not be underestimated. Despite their initial bid being rejected, the German giants are known for their persistence in the transfer market. With their financial clout and history of developing young talent, they remain a strong contender for Doue’s signature.
Bayern’s offer might have fallen short, but they have the resources to increase their bid and satisfy Rennais’ demands. Their aggression in trying to secure Doue’s services should come as a warning sign for the Lilywhites.
Fabrizio Romano has also stated that there seems to be a sense of pressure internally in the Tottenham camp to coup the player. That plays its own separate dynamics. Speaking of the existing talent in the squad, we have Brennan Johnson and Manor Solomon as options on the left wing if skipper Son Heung-min continues to feature through the middle.
Doue himself will have a significant decision to make. Choosing between the Premier League, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1, each offering different challenges and opportunities, will shape his career trajectory. Spurs might offer more immediate first-team opportunities, Bayern promises a pathway to compete for major trophies, and PSG provides the chance to play alongside world-class players.
