Tottenham target Nico Williams gets vote of approval from from Andres Iniesta, the Barcelona legend
Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, Spanish legend Andres Iniesta was full of praise for impressive winger Nico Williams and wants him to move to Barcelona amidst Tottenham Hotspur links.
Williams has been tearing it up in the European Championship so far, with his performances really catching the eye. Alongside Lamine Yamal, the Barcelona wonderkid, the duo have been terrorizing opposition defences with their performances.
Whilst the younger star might have hogged all the limelight with his wondergoal against France in the Euros semifinals, one must not forget the kind of performances Nico has put in so far for Luis de la Fuente’s team.
Spain have been the best team to watch so far in the Euros with their performances really catching the eye. Facing England in the finals, a team who have had a very different route to the finals, the contrast in styles promises us an exciting final tomorrow.
Tottenham aren’t the only club interested in Nico’s signature. Barcelona themselves can be considered front-runners for the 22-year-old with other clubs also wanting to bring the Spanish youngster to their clubs.
Speaking about the talented youngster, Andres Iniesta has given him the vote of approval but wants the player to join his beloved Barcelona
“The level he’s showing is in line with the national team. We’re talking about Nico or Lamine, but you could also talk about Fabián, Rodri, Dani Olmo… anyone. Nico Williams has also had a fantastic season at his club, he’s a name that will surely be heard by the big teams. His signing for Barça would give the club another level, but we’ll see what happens.”
Despite interest from Tottenham and many other Premier League clubs, it looks increasingly likely that Barcelona will win the race for his signature. Under Hansi Flick, the club are moving in a new direction and will want to pair Yamal with the 21-year-old. Ex-Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez called Nico an ‘exceptional’ player.
Tottenham would be wise to move on to more realistic targets. Being interested in Nico is an indication of us being ambitious but now that it seems unlikely that he’ll come to North London, we’ll have to look at other avenues.
