Tottenham eye £42m move for Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush
According to the German publication Sport Bild, Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a £42m move for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush this summer transfer window.
Marmoush has really caught the eye with his performances in the Bundesliga last season. The 25-year-old scored 17 goals and provided six assists across all competitions in 41 appearances for the German side.
The 1.83m Egyptian striker has a unique eye for goal. Although predominantly a number nine, Marmoush can also do a job on either wing. Of late though, he has preferred to stick to a central role, focussing on becoming a world-class striker.
With a contract at the club until 2027 (Transfermarkt), Frankfurt are in no rush to sell the player and can hold out for an asking price they deem acceptable. Marmoush has also made 29 appearances for the Egyptian national team, scoring five goals.
Marmoush’s coach Dino Topmoller expressed his delight with the 25-year-old’s performances. Here is what he had to say:
“He is a very good player who has discovered the art of scoring goals. He can sense the faith the coaches and his team-mates have in him. He is extremely hard-working and difficult to defend.”
Spurs of course need a number nine to replace Harry Kane, the club legend who left for Bayern Munich last summer. Ange Postecoglou made the smart call of not signing a striker when the wounds were still raw.
Any striker who would have come in last season would have struggled to fill the enormous shoes left behind by the English national team captain. Now that it’s been 12 months though, the player can adapt in less trying circumstances.
£42m for Omar Marmoush might be slightly high at face value considering he needs to adapt to a different league if he comes to England. However, the 25-year-old has shown a knack for finding the back of the net and could develop into an even better striker.
