Tottenham want to sign Espanyol shot-stopper Joan Garcia
According to Spanish publication Eldesmarque, Tottenham Hotspur are looking to pip Real Madrid and Arsenal to the signature of Espanyol shot-stopper Joan Garcia.
The Spanish shot-stopper has won a lot of plaudits for his performances with the La Liga 2 side last season. He was instrumental in his side’s qualification back to the top flight of Spanish football and has caught the eye of top clubs around the world.
Tottenham already have Italian goalie Guglielmo Vicario in the ranks. Having signed him last season, the player has seamlessly filled the giant boots of Hugo Lloris and looks set to be our number one for the foreseeable future.
However, Ange Postecoglou might be looking to sign a new reserve goalie and replace Fraser Forster. As good as the English veteran has been when given a chance, he is advancing in age and Spurs might want someone younger with the potential to grow.
Arsenal currently have two top-quality goalkeepers in the squad – David Raya and Aaron Ramsdale. It’s very clear that Mikel Arteta doesn’t fancy playing the latter in his team and might want to replace him with the Spaniard.
Real Madrid have Thibaut Courtois who is returning after almost an entire year out of football. Andriy Lunin made a name for himself filling in during the Belgian’s absence and will want to move to a new club where he is a regular starter.
Regardless of which of the three clubs Joan Garcia considers, the 23-year-old will know that he will have to fight for his place. He is unlikely to be a starter for any club he joins if it’s one of these three.
Garcia is said to have a release clause of around €25m in his contract. Considering the potential he has to become one of the best in his position, any club would not mind signing him. However, it doesn’t make sense to bring him in as a backup.
