Tottenham urged to be wary of 2025-26 'mess' if they fail to beat Manchester United.

Tottenham have to beat Manchester United in the Europa League final in Bilbao by hook or crook

Ange Postecoglou has been tipped to lose his job if Tottenham Hotspur fail to win their UEFA Europa League final against fellow domestic counterparts Manchester United.

The North Londoners are on track for the worst-ever Premier League finish in the club’s history, and currently sit a lowly 17th in the table. However, they have one final chance to salvage something from their dismal campaign when they take on Ruben Amorim’s side in Bilbao with European silverware on the line.

The winners of the final will also secure Champions League football next season, which would bring in additional revenue and increase transfer pull in the summer transfer window. UEFA has been urged to revise their Europa League rules and regulations, with former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believing that a club finishing so low in their respective domestic league should not be rewarded with a free entry to the Champions League.

Ange Postecoglou will want to live up to his word by winning the Europa League trophy in his second season with Tottenham

A defeat to Man United in the Europa League final would be a difficult pill to swallow for Spurs and result in a battle to keep hold of their best players. Cristian Romero appears to likely to jump ship after a catastrophic season featuring 20 losses in 36 Premier League games, while there is speculation surrounding the futures of Pedro Porro, Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison too.

Former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson feels the Lilywhites could be set for a complete restructure in the summer if they fail to win the Europa League trophy. Ange Postecoglou has been on thin ice for months and is likely to part ways with the club at the end of the season, while Robinson says that no European football next season would leave Tottenham in a big “mess”.

“For Tottenham, it’s more important because of the aftermath that a defeat in that final would leave”, Robinson said on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast.

“A defeat in that final for Tottenham would leave them managerless – they’ve got 20 defeats as we talk at the moment. No European football, no Champions League budget, looking for a new manager and looking to keep hold of players, rather than attracting new players and restructuring.

“If Tottenham don’t win this Europa League, they’re back to where they were before Nuno Espirito Santo came in, before Jose [Mourinho] came in; they’re in a whole rebuild, a whole restructure. The wake which a defeat leaves at Tottenham, is such a mess.”

Tottenham are interested in an ambitious summer swoop for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi

Tottenham’s dismal season is almost at an end, and Big Ange and his boys will like to end it on a high by lifting the Europa League silverware at San Mames in Bilbao next week. The Greek-Aussie boss looks bound for the sack at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium regardless of their potential European success, but this shouldn’t stop Daniel Levy from making additions to the squad.

However, losing the European final should have plenty of repercussions in the immediate and long-term future of the North London club. No Champions League budget will hamper Spurs’ hopes of getting their top targets, with an ambitious move for Crystal Palace skipper Marc Guehi lined up. At the same time, Levy could also miss out on his preferred managerial candidate to replace Ange at the club’s helm.
