Europa League or bust: Tottenham warned that summer transfer business is dependent on result vs Manchester United.

Tottenham must ensure Europa League victory to save themselves from financial constraints

Tottenham Hotspur has endured a disastrous domestic campaign this season under Ange Postecoglou. The Lilywhites have struggled to get going and they now sit 17th in the Premier League table. Ange’s men are on their way to record the club’s lowest ever points tally in a single Premier League season as well. The mediocre performances on the pitch have put Big Ange’s job under threat at N17.

However, in complete contrast to the dismal domestic campaign, the club’s European journey has been a major success. The Lilywhites have managed to reach the Europa League final this season, and Ange’s men are now just one step away from creating a legacy at N17. Winning the competition would mean that Spurs’ 17-year long wait for a major trophy will finally come to an end.

Tottenham are languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

The North London club takes on Manchester United in the final, a team they have already beaten thrice in all competitions this season. But beating the Red Devils will not be a straightforward task this time, as Ruben Amorim’s side is the only unbeaten team in the Europa League this season.

Tottenham to incur losses after disastrous Premier League campaign

Tottenham might need to reshuffle their squad in the summer after enduring a tough Premier League campaign. The Lilywhites need a massive squad overhaul in the summer if they want to close the gap on their rivals next season. But Spurs will have to adopt the ‘sell-to-buy’ policy in the summer due to the poor results in domestic competitions.

Now, football finance expert Stefan Borson has also revealed the losses Tottenham would incur due to their Premier League position. Speaking to Football Insider, Borson said,

“Clearly, this season you’ve probably got Tottenham, Manchester United and West Ham United all about £25-30million off their budget finishing position. They would all have said we’re going to finish eighth or above let’s say, and they’re all going to finish about nine places lower, so that’s £25-30million off their budget.”

Tottenham all set to lose out on millions after a dismal domestic campaign.

Stefan Borson has insisted that Tottenham would lose out on almost £25-30million due to their Premier League position. The finance expert added that the Lilywhites did not think they would finish outside the top ten in the league, but will now have to cut their transfer budget by almost £30m after finishing in the bottom half of the league table.

The Europa League is quite literally acting as the saving grace for the North London club. Winning the competition would ensure a huge influx of money into the club. It was reported earlier that Spurs would earn around £70m if they managed to lift the trophy on Wednesday night. The winners of the Europa League are ensured a place in the Champions League as well next season, which would benefit Tottenham financially in more ways than one.
