Brennan Johnson has urged the Tottenham board to back Ange Postecoglou

Tottenham Hotspur have done it! The Lilywhites have reached the promised land and won the Europa League this season. Ange Postecoglou’s men have managed to do the unthinkable and they have ended the club’s 17-year wait for silverware in spectacular fashion. The North London defeated Manchester United 1-0 in an enthralling game at the San Mames Stadium.

The big headline is that Ange Postecoglou has delivered on his promise of winning a trophy in his second season at a club. The Australian has been under all sorts of pressure in recent months due to the mediocre performances on the pitch. But to his credit, Big Ange certainly rose to the occasion and chose a lineup that suited the opposition’s style.

Ange Postecoglou managed to become the first Australian, and indeed the first manager from outside Europe or Argentina, to win a European trophy. This is quite an achievement for the 59-year-old after staring at the barrel of the gun at N17 for so long. The Spurs manager has proved his worth at the biggest stage possible and has led the Lilywhites to Champions League football for next season.

Tottenham star Brennan Johnson gives verdict on Ange Postecoglou’s future

Ange Postecoglou has been walking a tight rope at Tottenham since the turn of the year. The media and the fans have all shown their discontent towards the Australian’s management. However, it is worth noting that many Spurs players have always fought hard for the ex-Celtic boss and backed Big Ange to turn the fortunes around at N17.

Now, Tottenham star Brennan Johnson has also given his verdict on Ange Postecoglou’s future. Speaking to TNT Sports (as transcribed by the BBC) after the final whistle, Johnson said,

“He has done his job. He said he wins in the second year and he has, if there’s ever a time for a mic drop, it’s now [when he speaks to the media]. I can’t thank the manager enough for how much trust he has in us and he has a really good way of getting us up for it.”

Brennan Johnson has suggested that Ange Postecoglou has proved his critics wrong after winning the Europa League. The Welshman has also added that Big Ange has delivered on his promise of winning a trophy in his second season and earned a ‘mic drop’ moment by achieving the feat. Johnson has also acknowledged Ange Postecoglou’s role in trusting the players and believing in them.
