Tottenham need to invest carefully in the upcoming transfer window

Tottenham Hotspur need to bring in reinforcements in the summer after enduring a dismal domestic campaign. The Lilywhites have managed to end the season on a high after winning the Europa League this season. But the North London club must now build on the success and invest in the squad heavily if they want to close the gap on their rivals next season.

Spurs have ensured Champions League football for next season and that is surely a key factor in luring potential targets to N17 in the summer. It was reported earlier that the Lilywhites would gain £70m if they managed to win the Europa League on Wednesday night. Now that the North London club has achieved that goal, it is important for Daniel Levy to invest in the club carefully.

There is one stumbling block for Tottenham heading into the transfer window. The Lilywhites will need to adopt the ‘sell-to-buy’ policy if they want to buy quality players due to the disastrous Premier League campaign that Ange’s men have endured. The financial losses incurred due to the league position will need to be covered quickly and Daniel Levy will be forced to cash in on underperforming players to bring in new signings.

Tottenham aiming to sign experienced players in the summer

Tottenham have nailed the transfer strategies in recent seasons. The Lilywhites have brought in some exciting young talents in the past few transfer windows. And the North London club has aimed to build a foundation for the next decade by signing potential world-class players. They have also aimed to develop and nurture talent at Hotspur Way.

However, the BBC has now reported that Spurs are aiming to sign some experienced players this summer to blend in with the already-existing young talents. The Lilywhites are aiming to oversee a major squad overhaul in the summer and many key players are expected to head for pastures new once the season ends.

So, Daniel Levy is trying to maximise this opportunity by bringing in experienced players to fill the void left behind by the outgoing players. The aforementioned report has also suggested that Spurs are willing to bring in an experienced midfielder for next season. With Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur facing uncertain futures at N17, Daniel Levy is aiming to sign a quality replacement quickly.

For instance, it was reported earlier last month that Tottenham were interested in signing Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid in the summer. The Lilywhites saw the England international as an ideal player that could suit Ange Postecoglou’s system. And the England international has also captained Chelsea in the past (proving he has Premier League experience). It remains to be seen if a deal will go through for the ‘powerhouse’ midfielder.

Fans will hope that Daniel Levy does not get complacent heading into the transfer window this year. Spurs need to invest heavily as the Europa League success is just paper over the cracks and the problems at the club lie deeper than that. The fans will also hope that the North London club manages to make the most of the funds available and invest wisely on players that suit the system.
