Tottenham suffer blow as Marseille manager decides to stay put for next season

Roberto De Zerbi snubs Tottenham to stay at Marseille to continue his project
There is a growing feeling around Tottenham that Ange Postecoglou might just be on his way out from N17. The Australian will forever be remembered by the fans for ending the club’s 17-year wait for a major trophy this season. His team won the Europa League by exceeding all expectations and beating Manchester United 1-0 in the final at the San Mames Stadium.
Winning the competition also ensured Champions league qualification for the Lilywhites. However, the Europa League success has not overshadowed the failures in the Premier League. Spurs have struggled to get going in domestic competitions, and that has costed the club financially as well. Daniel Levy must adopt the ‘sell-to-buy’ policy if he wants to bring in new players in the summer due to the league position.

During the trophy parade on Friday, Ange Postecoglou was greeted with a loud cheer by the fans. This just means that the Australian still has the backing of the Spurs faithful for now. Also, the 59-year-old has given a clear indication that he is planning for next season and does not know whether he will remain at the helm or not in the summer.
Roberto De Zerbi to stay at Marseille amid Tottenham links
There is no secret at Daniel Levy is already looking to bring in a new manager to build on the Europa League success next season and compete for trophies. The Lilywhites have endured a disastrous domestic campaign and that has not helped Ange Postecoglou’s cause as the Australian is set to be axed by the North London club once the season ends.
It was reported earlier that Spurs wanted to bring in Marseille manager Roberto De Zerbi as a replacement of Ange Postecoglou for next season. But, Spurs have now suffered a massive blow in their pursuit of the Italian manager. As per Football Italia, De Zerbi is set to stay at Marseille next season and continue his project at Orange Velodrome.
The French club also released a statement earlier this week confirming the 45-year-old’s stay at the club. The statement read (via Football Italia),
“Frank Mccourt, Pablo Longoria, Medhi Benatia and Roberto De Zerbi are fully committed to a consolidated project. The two days of discussions consolidated and reaffirmed the unity of the management team around a shared vision, essential to the long-term viability of the project launched in the summer of 2024.”

The club statement continued,
“It confirmed that they are preparing for the 2025-26 season “with the full commitment and alignment of all the club’s directors, determined to meet the exciting challenges ahead, first and foremost that of establishing the club in the Champions League on a permanent basis, season after season.”
Now that it is confirmed that Roberto De Zerbi is going nowhere next season, Daniel Levy must switch his focus to other alternatives. It was reported earlier that former Ajax boss Francesco Farioli is also on the shortlist and Levy believes the talented manager is the perfect man to replace Big Ange at the helm.

Fans will hope that the North London club takes the right decision regarding the managerial situation. Before Levy proceeds with negotiations for any manager, the Spurs chairman will need to make sure that Ange Postecoglou’s fate is decided at N17.
