A Tottenham return could be on the cards for Mauricio Pochettino

Tottenham have taken the bold decision to sack Ange Postecoglou just two weeks after the Australian led the club to its first silverware in 17 years. The ex-Celtic boss was constantly under scrutiny this season, and it is fair to say that he did his best to turn the fortunes around at N17. But winning the Europa League was not enough for the 59-year-old to save his job at the club.

There is a strong sentiment amongst the fans and the players that Daniel Levy took the wrong decision by sacking Big Ange. The ex-Celtic boss silenced his critics in the best way possible by winning the Europa League last month and ending the long-standing trophy drought at the club. He also delivered on his promise of winning a trophy in his second season at a club.

Now, a new manager will be given the chance to build on the Europa League success and kickstart a new era at N17. Ange Postecoglou was keen to continue at the helm for next season after he announced that ‘season three’ would be better than the previous two seasons. It’s clear that Daniel Levy thought otherwise and sacked the Australian before things escalated.

Tottenham are aiming to land Mauricio Pochettino as a replacement of Ange Postecoglou

One step forward, two steps back…. That is the story of Tottenham Hotspur under Daniel Levy. Just when things look good for the Lilywhites, Levy comes around and manages to pull the club down by making a wrong decision. The sacking of Ange Postecoglou is the latest blunder the Spurs chairman has made since he sacked Jose Mourinho just a few days before the Carabao Cup final in 2021.

Many fans are now wondering who the next manager is going to be to takeover the reigns at N17 following Ange Postecoglou’s departure. As per the BBC, Spurs have set their eyes on ex-manager Mauricio Pochettino. The USMNT head coach has become a subject of interest in North London and Daniel Levy is believed to be in touch with the Argentine since some time now.

However, the aforementioned report suggests that bringing Pochettino back to N17 would cost a lot as the ex-Spurs manager has an expensive break clause in his contract. It is believed that the Lilywhites will opt against hiring the USMNT coach for now. It was reported earlier that Brentford boss Thomas Frank is leading the race to replace Big Ange instead.
