Long-term Tottenham target could be available for as little as £20m this summer

Tottenham scouts are keeping close tabs on Hayden Hackney at the European Under-21 Championship in Slovakia
Thomas Frank has taken a new challenge in his career by accepting the Tottenham Hotspur job last week, replacing Ange Postecoglou at the helm in the process.
During his seven-year stay at Brentford, the Dane has made a deep impression due to his tactical flexibility and ability to get the best out of squads with limited budget. His playing philosophy, based on intensity, physicality, discipline and organisation, coupled with the development of young talent, has convinced the Spurs officials to bring him across the capital to N17.
At Spurs, Thomas Frank will be under a lot more pressure than he was in West London. So, he must hit the ground running when the 2025/26 campaign gets underway. After an underwhelming last season, reinforcements will be necessary if the North Londoners want to head back in the right direction.
Daniel Levy has to make some quality signings to improve the 51-year-old’s squad, as Tottenham prepare to compete in the Champions League. And the Lilywhites have been linked with a talented midfielder in the form of Hayden Hackney.

Spurs are considering signing Hayden Hackney, who could leave Middlesbrough after their failed promotion bid. Manchester United are also keen on the central midfielder after his impressive displays in the Championship across the last two seasons. The 22-year-old is currently in Slovakia for the European Under-21 Championship, where Tottenham scouts will be keeping a close eye on his displays.
Now, reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham thinks Hackney will make the move to the Premier League this summer in a £20m deal.
“This is a player who Tottenham have long admired,” John Wenham exclusively told Tottenham News.
“I think he will make the move to the Premier League this summer, whether that’s with Tottenham or another club.
“Hackney is a versatile, young midfielder who will increase in value. He’s the right age, and anyone you speak to of a Middlesbrough persuasion will tell you he’s one of their best players. I think he will be sold for about £20m.”

Tottenham are expected to reinforce their midfield, with Yves Bissouma, who is into the final year of his contract, potentially on his way out of the club this summer. They have identified Hackney as a target, as Frank looks to upgrade his options in the middle of the park.

While Middlesbrough value the Englishman at around £20m, they will want to get a bigger fee and hope a bidding war erupts between Tottenham and Man United. Additionally, the Championship outfit could use their homegrown talent’s performances for England’s Under-21 side at the European Championship in Slovakia to demand a higher fee from suitors.
Thus, it remains to be seen what happens in the coming weeks, but the Lilywhites must do everything to secure Hackney’s signature.
