Thomas Frank excited to work with Son Heung-min’s successor Tottenham, confirms Alasdair Gold

Tottenham have confirmed the permanent signing of forward Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich
Tottenham Hotspur are ushering into a new era under Thomas Frank, as Daniel Levy looks to reshape the squad as per the Danish tactician’s image and philosophy.
One would expect Daniel Levy and Co. to build the team around young talents, but under the system that Thomas Frank wants at the Hotspur Way. There is plenty of work to do when it comes to identifying the right players and bringing them at the club. Spurs are yet to make fresh signings but they have at least started the process of preparing the squad for the 2025/26 season.
The Lilywhites confirmed the permanent signing of Kevin Danso from RC Lens at the end of last month. On Sunday, they announced the permanent capture of Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich.

Having arrived on loan from Bayern Munich during the winter transfer window’s deadline day, Mathys Tel was expected to hit the ground running at Spurs. However, the youngster struggled to adapt to the intensity and physicality of the Premier League, with former boss Ange Postecoglou throwing him at the deep end to lead his team’s attack. The forward did manage three goals and an assist in 20 appearances, but showed flashes of his potential.
This led to the Tottenham officials wanting to sign Tel permanently from Bayern Munich, but not as per the terms that had been set. And it did happen likewise, as Tel made the permanent move to North London in a reported €45m deal, which is significantly less than what Bayern were initially asking for.
Now, Frank is tasked with helping the France youth international fulfil his vast potential, and the new Spurs head coach’s feelings have just become clear. According to a report from Football London, Frank is excited by the prospect of working with Tel at N17. He has been studying the youngster’s game and his opinion was that the forward would be a good signing for the North London club.

The Danish boss has a fantastic track record of nurturing young forwards, and there is hope of Tel developing under his watchful eyes. The Sarcelles-born talent is rated highly across the European continent and should do well for Tottenham with more experience, time and guidance.
With Son Heung-min edging towards the twilight of his career, Tel could be seen as an option to succeed the South Korean on the left. It will be interesting to see how Frank uses the ex-Bayern prodigy in his system and gets the best out of him.
