AS Monaco star Vanderson has a choice to make in the summer amid Tottenham transfer links

It was clear for all to see that the injury crisis at Tottenham impacted the performances on the pitch. One of the major reasons for the club’s disastrous Premier League campaign was the lack of squad depth that the Lilywhites had under Ange Postecoglou. The North London struggled to field the same starting eleven for consecutive games for most parts of the season due to the injury crisis at N17.

Yet, Spurs managed to defy all odds and won the Europa League to end the campaign on a high amidst all the scrutiny. Now, Daniel Levy must make sure that reinforcements are brought in quickly so that the Lilywhites can build on the Europa League success heading into next season.

Many areas of the pitch need to be addressed in the coming weeks at N17. But the focus should be on revamping the defence as the North London club clearly lacked depth in the backline for most parts of the season. Big Ange was forced to play inexperienced in different positions at the back as many key defenders were forced to sit on the sidelines through long-term injuries.

Tottenham still in the running for AS Monaco star Vanderson

Tottenham are looking to bolster their defence in the summer as many key players failed to perform consistently last season. The Lilywhites will be competing against top teams in the Champions League next season, and the need to have a full-strength squad is necessary as they will look to go far in the competition.

It was reported earlier that Spurs were interested in AS Monaco full-back Vanderson for next season. The Brazil international has made a name for himself in Ligue 1 and has been a key part of the setup at the French club under Adolf Hutter. Now, the Lilywhites have taken notice of that and want to bring him to N17 in the summer as Pedro Porro’s replacement.

However, the deal to sign the 23-year-old is not as easy as it sounds. As per UOL, Barcelona have intensified talks to sign the full-back after being aware of the player’s preference to join the Catalan club in the summer. The aforementioned report also suggests that AS Monaco are looking to recoup €35m for the defender and prefer selling Vanderson to Spurs instead.

It remains to be seen how Daniel Levy approaches this deal. The Lilywhites cannot afford to waste any more time on convincing players to join the club in the summer, as time is running out in the transfer market. Other clubs have already started strengthening their squads for next season, so Spurs need to act fast and land their intended targets under Thomas Frank.

Signing Vanderson in the summer would be a good move by Spurs. The Brazilian likes to venture forward and tends to make overlapping runs when the winger cuts inside. He thrives while playing for a team that presses high, and the 23-year-old is not shy of getting into challenges to win the ball back. Thomas Frank prefers his full-backs to be effective on both ends of the pitch, which indicates that the deal for the AS Monaco star should be a priority.
