Tottenham’s dream of signing RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko in the summer was short-lived

A massive squad overhaul is needed at Tottenham if the club wants to build on the Europa League success next season. Many key players underperformed last season, and as a result of that, the Lilywhites finished the Premier League campaign just a place above the relegation zone. The lack of consistency on display was one of major reasons why Ange Postecoglou lost his job at N17.

Now, the North London club must look to bring in reinforcements in the summer to help Thomas Frank kickstart a new era at Hotspur Way. It is not going to be an easy task though, as the poor domestic campaign that Spurs endured has put financial constraints on the club for this summer. In easy words, the Lilywhites must adopt the ‘sell-to-buy’ policy if they want to bring in new players for next season.

For that, Spurs will be forced to cash-in on underperforming players to generate funds and make space for new arrivals. The Lilywhites have not yet offloaded any players, and the North London club is already playing catch-up in the transfer market as other clubs have already started strengthening their squads.

Tottenham set to miss out on RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko

There is no surprise that Tottenham are looking to bring in a new striker in the summer after enduring a disappointing domestic campaign. Last summer’s statement signing Dominic Solanke clearly struggled to perform consistently, and signing a new forward might just be what the England international needs to elevate his game and take the club to new levels.

It was reported earlier that Spurs were interested in signing Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig. The Lilywhites were aiming to hijack a deal from Arsenal as a move to the Emirates Stadium was put on hold due to a difference in the asking price. The aforementioned report also suggested that the German club was asking for around €80m to €100m for Sesko’s services.

However, Tottenham are facing a massive setback in their pursuit of the Slovenia international. As per TuttoJuve, Benjamin Sesko has decided to snub the Lilywhites and move to Arsenal in the summer. The Gunners are planning to put an offer on the table in the coming days that will be sufficient to land the prolific striker. The ‘financial availability’ shown by Arsenal has convinced Sesko to make the switch to the Emirates Stadium.

Daniel Levy must shift his focus on other strikers now as Spurs look to bolster their attack for next season. It was reported earlier that the Lilywhites are also interested in signing OGC Nice star Evann Guessand in the summer. The prolific striker will provide a different dynamic to the attack and can provide good cover for Dominic Solanke as well. It remains to be seen how Levy approaches the deal as Tottenham look to close the gap on their rivals next season.
