Thomas Frank backed to solve key Tottenham issue; talks expected in July

Tottenham want to keep hold of Cristian Romero for at least another season amid Atletico Madrid
Tottenham Hotspur are doing their best to prevent a Cristian Romero transfer to Atletico Madrid, despite both the player and the suitors seeming pretty keen on the move.
The 2022 World Cup winner has been flirting with a move to Spain since the end of last season, expressing his desire to play in La Liga only a few months back. The centre-back has attracted concrete interest from Atletico Madrid since the turn of the year, with Diego Simeone publicly calling him a “great player”.
Cristian Romero is wary about Daniel Levy’s intentions to get the maximum fee out of his sale could cost him a move to Atletico Madrid. Spurs remain firm that they want to keep the Argentinean international, at least for another season, and if any club wishes to sign him this summer must pay over £60 million.
Daniel Levy is unlikely to compromise on the centre-back’s valuation as he is an asset to the club and still has two years left on his contract. Atletico may struggle to meet Tottenham’s valuation of the 27-year-old despite concrete interest in making him a part of Simeone’s squad this summer.

Now, reputable podcast Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham thinks new boss Thomas Frank will want to make it one of his priorities to have a word with Romero and sort out his uncertain situation at the club once he returns for pre-season training next month.
“I know it’s been suggested it might be difficult to keep Romero,” John Wenham exclusively told Tottenham News.
“People have pointed toward his close relationship with Ange Postecoglou and suggested he might not get on with the new manager.
“However, I understand players such as Romero are due back in training the week after next, and I imagine that will be one of the first things which is sorted out. I’d expected Frank to hold talks with Romero over his future at Tottenham and where he sees that going.”

Any new manager walking into a club would want to keep his best players, and the same will be with Frank. The Dane will certainly be keen to keep hold of Romero, who was the Man of the Match in the Europa League final win over Manchester United. The South American is a world-class player and a great influence on the pitch.
The Lilywhites will compete in the Champions League next term, which could become a key factor to retain the Argentinean’s services for another season. Given that Romero is a complete package for a defender, it’d very difficult for our club to replace if he does depart this summer.
