A big question mark is still looming over Tottenham star Cristian Romero’s future as transfer links grow stronger

Tottenham defender Cristian Romero has not escaped the media spotlight in recent months. With the Lilywhites facing a massive squad overhaul in the summer, it is only fair to suggest that Romero’s future is also under consideration at N17. The Argentina international has been one of the standout players for the North London club in recent seasons, showcasing immense talent and consistency.

The 27-year-old is a born-winner and his performance in the Europa League final showed exactly why he is one of the best defenders in world football right now. The Spurs defender was resolute at the back and did not let anyone get past him in the final, securing a clean sheet against Man United.

It is clear that Romero will play a crucial part under Thomas Frank at N17 if he decides to stay for next season. The Danish tactician prefers his team to play out from the back, and wants his centre-backs to be comfortable on the ball. The style of play suits Cristian Romero’s game and he will surely thrive under the new Spurs manager. However, the club needs to sell its project convincingly if they want to retain the Argentine in the summer.

Tottenham star Cristian Romero has not yet finalised his future as transfer talks continue

The media spotlight is circling around N17 as Cristian Romero faces an uncertain future at Tottenham. The Argentina international’s contract is up in two years, so the Lilywhites should be in no rush to sell the centre-back anytime soon if a suitable offer does not come in. But it looks more than likely that the 27-year-old will head for pastures new after he confirmed that he wants to test himself in Spain.

It was reported earlier that Atletico Madrid’s offer of €65m has been accepted by the Lilywhites this week. The Spanish giants are paying €55m up-front, with €10m on add-ons. This comes after it was suggested that Diego Simeone was ‘desperate’ to sign the 27-year-old in the summer and would pull out all stops for his signature.

However, there is a new twist in the transfer saga involving Romero. As per Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge (via X),

“Told reports from Argentina media that Spurs have agreed a fee with Atletico Madrid for Cristian Romero are not true.”

The Lilywhites must sort out Cristian Romero’s future quickly as pre-season is just around the corner. The North London club cannot afford to wait any longer as they also have to find a replacement in case the 27-year-old decides to leave N17 for pastures new. Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi is seen as an obvious candidate that could fill in at the back if the Argentine leaves the club.
