“Far more likely”- Tottenham might wait until ‘later in the window’ to sign relegated star on a free transfer

Kyle Walker-Peters is eager to re-join Tottenham in the summer after becoming a free agent earlier this week
The Europa League success saved Tottenham’s blushes at the end of last season. The Lilywhites were on course to finish the campaign just a place above the relegation zone in the Premier league with no trophies to show. But Ange Postecoglou’s men defied all odds and managed to end a 17-year wait for a major trophy.
Not only that, but winning the competition also meant that Spurs did not have a financial constraint heading into the summer. The North London club can now spend the money received from the cash-prize after winning the Europa League. But Daniel Levy must be careful while investing into the squad as there are a lot of areas that need to be addressed quickly.

While the attack might be a priority for the Lilywhites, there is no doubt that the ‘full-back’ position would also be looked at by Daniel Levy. With Pedro Porro linked with a move to Barcelona and Djed Spence yet to perform consistently for the first-team, Spurs will look to bolster their depth for next season as they look to compete on four fronts under Thomas Frank.
Tottenham are interested in signing Kyle Walker-Peters
Tottenham are looking to add some depth into the squad by making some shrewd signings in the transfer window. It was reported earlier that the Lilywhites are interested in signing Kyle Walker-Peters in the summer. The England international is a free agent as of now, after Southampton announced that the 28-year-old will not be extending his contract. The aforementioned report also states that Walker-Peters is keen to join Spurs again after leaving the club in 2020.
Now, John Wenham believes that Tottenham might wait until the end of the transfer window to seal the deal for the full-back. Speaking to Tottenham News, Wenham said,
“I think we’re far more likely to sign Walker-Peters than Cirkin. He’s 28 now, he’s that little but more experienced, a previous England international, and he was even the best man at Dominic Solanke’s wedding recently, just by chance.”
The Lilywhite Rose owner added,
“I’d say that deal is far more likely. However, I think Tottenham might wait until later in the window to explore that deal and see how their other recruitment goes first. Whether or not Walker-Peters is still available then, we will have to wait and see.”
John Wenham has suggested that Tottenham will sign Kyle Walker-Peters in the summer. The Lilywhite Rose owner added that the full-back is experienced and has also featured for England during his career. However, Wenham believes that Spurs would wait until the end of the summer to strike a deal for the 28-year-old as the club would look to sort out other issues on the pitch first.
Signing a free agent comes with less pressure, as the fans are not expecting much from the player in return. But Spurs are going to compete hard in all competitions next season, so having good depth would be the right way to go under Thomas Frank. With Kyle Walker-Peters at the Dane’s disposal, Spurs would have a solid option at the back. The 28-year-old is versatile as he either play as a right-back, or as a left-back.

With Destiny Udogie lacking competition on the left-side, bringing in Walker-Peters on a free might turn out to be a good signing eventually. The 28-year-old knows the club well and he has gained a lot of experience in the Premier League during his time at Southampton. Fans will hope that the Englishman comes good when called upon during the crucial parts of the season.
