There are not many positives Tottenham fans can take from this summer’s transfer window. The North London club need to address a lot of problems on the pitch, starting with their defence. For that to happen, Thomas Frank will need a strong defensive line with enough depth to cover all the positions. It was reported earlier that Spurs were interested in signing Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton in the summer. The Lilywhites were in a long pursuit to land the England international and viewed him as a perfect replacement of Cristian Romero. However, the Toffees were always sticking to the asking price of £70m, which Spurs were unable to offer. The aforementioned report also stated that Branthwaite was keen to make a summer switch as he wanted to play Champions League football.

Now, the Lilywhites are dealt with a massive setback following the recent news involving the 22-year-old. Everton have confirmed that Branthwaite has signed a new long-term contract with the club. The England international has decided to stay put amid strong transfer links and has extended his stay at the Hill Dickinson Stadium until 2030. This comes after it was reported that David Moyes was keen to retain the Englishman for next season.
