Tottenham-linked Juventus outcast Douglas Luiz has emerged as a target for Everton
Tottenham Hotspur have finally started showing their ambition in the 2025 summer transfer market.
Spurs wrapped up deals for Kota Takai and Mohammed Kudus last week, as well as, triggered Morgan Gibbs-White’s £60m release clause at Nottingham Forest. Medical tests for Gibbs-White were scheduled for Friday afternoon, only for it be put on a standby after Nottingham Forest lodged a formal complaint against the North Londoners’ ‘illegal’ pursuit of the player.
In addition to the Forest star, the Lilywhites have also shown an interest in signing Juventus outcast Douglas Luiz of late.
The Brazilian midfielder joined Juventus in a big-money deal from Aston Villa last summer. However, he failed to showcase his talent and adjust to the tactical demands of coaches Thiago Motta and Igor Tudor, clocking just clocking just 516 minutes across 19 Serie A games. Igor Tudor does not fancy Douglas Luiz in his plans moving forward at Juventus, and he has been told to find a new club this summer.
Recent reports suggest the 27-year-old would ‘love’ to sign for Tottenham as he is keen on a return to the Premier League. However, Everton may pose a problem in Spurs’ pursuit of the Brazil international.
Everton in ‘deep talks’ with Juventus misfit
According to a report from Italian outlet Calciomercato, Everton are deep in talks with Juventus over a deal for Luiz. The Turin giants want €40m for the central midfielder, but Everton are only willing to take the player on loan for the 2025/26 campaign with an option to buy next summer. The Toffees are ready to make an offer.
This has currently put a stumbling block in negotiations, as Juventus want instant cash to reinvest in improving Tudor’s squad for the 2025/26 season.
Should Tottenham be worried?
Everton opening talks with Juventus over signing Luiz means Tottenham will not have a straightforward route to land him if they want to. But considering the Brazilian reportedly would ‘love’ to sign for Spurs, they should not be worried with Everton entering the mix.
Before bringing in the ex-Aston Villa star to White Hart Lane, Tottenham must try to make space in the squad by offloading Yves Bissouma. Fenerbahce are one of many clubs interested in signing Bissouma, having authorised an official to travel to London to meet the Mali international and the North London club last week.
If Tottenham manages to sign Luiz, he’d be a straight upgrade on the error-strewn, inconsistent Bissouma.
