Tottenham Hotspur were dealt with an emotional blow earlier in the day by captain Son Heung-min, who confirmed what fans had been fearing for quite some time now. The South Korean announced his desire to leave the club.
Once the exit is formalised, it will mark the end of a glorious 10-year stint for the 33-year-old at the N17. He has seen all the highs and lows the club has been through during this period and it is fitting that in his last season, he lifted the Europa League trophy against Manchester United.
Thomas Frank has gone about his pre-season business with much conviction despite the uncertainty surrounding Sonny’s future at the club. Now that it is clarified, it would be even more easier for the Danish tactician to build a squad without the South Korean.
Ben Davies is unsure about his future at Tottenham

Interestingly, another club veteran, Ben Davies, was asked about his future at Tottenham and if he would see out his contract at N17. The Welsh defender raised quite a few doubts with his answer.
As quoted by Football. London, here is what he had to say:
“That one is not necessarily under my control. I reported for pre-season and I’m excited to be here. My focus is now on how I can help this club this year and if something changes I’m sure I will be picking up that phone call but right now I don’t see anything else.”
Son Heung-min and Ben Davies are extremely close friends in the Spurs squad with the South Korean even the godfather for the Welshman’s son, Ralph. It remains to be seen if the exit of his friend also sees him leave the club this summer.
Should Davies see out his contract at Spurs, he would have spent 12 years at the club. Although much more a fringe player in recent seasons, his experience continues to be valuable, especially off the pitch.
Tottenham might want to keep him for a number of reasons
As per the roster, Tottenham have four central defenders – Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Kevin Danso and Radu Dragusin. Thus, Davies might be expendable. However, the Romanian is still recovering from an ACL injury.
Considering the injury history of Romero and Van de Ven, Thomas Frank might side towards retaining the experienced Welshman’s services for the upcoming season. It is also helpful that if push comes to shove, he can fill in at left-back as well.
It remains to be seen if any impending Son decision directly influences Ben Davies’ future at the club. The upcoming days should provide clarity on the situation and let’s wait and see how the cookie crumbles.
