Tottenham told to hijack Leipzig transfer following James Maddison setback

Tottenham Hotspur urged to trump RB Leipzig in the race for Liverpool star Harvey Elliott

Tottenham Hotspur have been looking to bring in a new creative midfielder in the upcoming summer transfer window, with the North Londoners looking to bring in someone who can help the North Londoners in that #10 role after James Maddison’s recent ACL injury, which has ripped a hole in Thomas Frank’s plans before the start of the season, and Daniel Levy would know that this needs fixing fast.

And this is where links with Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott make sense, given that he has been linked with a move away from L4 and has emerged as the leading candidate to fill that Maddison-shaped void at Hotspur Way. But the Lilywhites face a race against time for his signatures, as they will have to beat Bundesliga giants RB Leipzig.

The 22-year-old has already said to have agreed personal terms with the German side on a four-year contract, as former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, who is now in his new role as Red Bull’s Global Head of Soccer, is the driving force to attain his signatures. But what is more important is that Leipzig has not reached an agreement with the Merseysiders just yet, and that’s where Levy needs to pounce if he is serious about the North Londoners’ pursuit of Elliott.

The Sunday Mirror insists that the Reds have placed a £50 million demand to sanction a potential sale for Elliott, who made his Premier League debut for Fulham at just 15 and has 94 appearances in the English top tier under his belt. He also enjoyed a successful outing in England’s Euro U21 title defence this summer.

We saw how Arne Slot didn’t really use a lot of Elliott last season. Given that he only started twice in the league for the Reds, the Fulham academy graduate would be desperate to look for a move away this summer. And once a Lilywhites scout, Bryan King, gives the green light for the North Londoners to pursue his signatures.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, he said:

“I think Tottenham would be the best bet for him (Elliott). I would imagine that he’ll be wanting to push on towards a full England cap, and the only way he’s going to get that is by playing regular football, and Spurs can offer him that.

“He’s a quality player. That’s the kind of player that Spurs have got to be looking at.

“I would imagine that £50m is certainly the figure that Tottenham would have to pay, potentially with some add-ons if he were to get into the full England team.”

Elliott would be an investment for the future whilst also being someone who would make a difference in the upcoming months, which is why it does make sense for Daniel Levy to fork out a premium fee for his signature.
