Tottenham Hotspur put on a clinical show against Burnley, showing the newly promoted team levels in the Premier League game at the N17. It was a great start to the Thomas Frank era in North London.
Spurs cantered to a 3-0 win over Scott Parker’s side with Richarlison netting a brace and Brennan Johnson getting the third goal. Having suffered heartbreak at the hands of PSG in the UEFA Super Cup, this was a massive boost for Frank’s side.
One of the surprising decisions by the Danish coach when the line-ups rolled out was the inclusion of Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray in the starting XI. Frank went for youth over experience and the two teenagers did not disappoint.
A Frenkie de Jong-esque performance

Bergvall, in particular, put in an excellent display against the Clarets. He ran the show in midfield with technical ability and poise and it was almost a Frenkie de Jong-esque performance from the teenager.
Stats from SofaScore further reflect the same. Bergvall played 80 minutes of the game against Burnley before being substituted and had an xG of 0.12 and an xA of 0.01.
He covered 10.5kms during his time on the pitch, showcasing his energy and intense running. This included 7 sprints at a top speed of 30.9 km/hr. It is safe to say that Bergvall covered every blade of the pitch.
Bergvall had 33 touches on the ball, completing 19 out of 22 attempted passes at an accuracy of 86%. This also included 1 out of 2 attempted long balls.
A statement performance
The Swede completed both of his two attempted dribbles. Defensively, he seemed very sharp, winning 4 out of his 6 ground duels. He was aerially dominated though and would want to improve in this regard going forward.
Without a doubt, it was a statement performance from Bergvall. He showed Thomas Frank that he can be more than just a squad player in this team and Spurs fans have every right to be excited about him.
The way Bergvall has developed since his arrival at the N17 has been brilliant to watch. This could be the season he goes from being a prospect to a mainstay in the Spurs team, and let’s hope he can build on his performance against Burnley.
