Tottenham defender Cristian Romero will look to make more memories at N17 after extending his contract with the club

Tottenham fans are enduring a perfect week after the club keeps on giving good news one after the other. It all started with Thomas Frank registering his first win of the new Premier League season against Burnley. And then the North London club managed to tie down Djed Spence to a new long-term contract at N17 following his impact in the team this year.

But the good news did not stop there for the Spurs faithful, as Daniel Levy and Co. also managed to lock down Cristian Romero to a new four-year deal. The Argentina international was in the headlines throughout the summer, with reports linking him to a move away from N17. However, there was no real threat of Romero leaving the club without the Lilywhites budging on the asking price.

Tottenham star Cristian Romero is looking to lead from the front following his contract extension at N17.

The 27-year-old was also made club captain last week before the game against PSG in the UEFA Super Cup final. No one could argue against the decision as the prolific centre-back has been one of the best defenders in the Premier League in recent years. His influence in the dressing room is clear to see. And by making him captain, Thomas Frank indicated that he counted a lot on Romero.

Cristian Romero is one of the highest earns at Tottenham following contract extension

Securing Cristian Romero for the long-term had been in the works at N17. It was reported earlier that Thomas Frank made it a personal mission to get Romero to extend his contract. The Danish tactician also informed the club’s hierarchy in his first meeting with the club that he saw the 27-year-old as a key part of his project. That made the Argentina international to extend his contract with the Lilywhites.

Now, Bryan King has revealed how much the prolific centre-back might be earning after the contract extension. Speaking to Tottenham News, King said,

“He’s been made club captain, so that’s obviously had an effect on his decision, and I would imagine he’s also had a wage increase. On that note, I would say it’s been good business all round. I think that Romero will certainly be earning over £200,000-a-week now, I would be very surprised if he isn’t.”

Bryan King believes that electing Cristian Romero as the club captain played a massive role in convincing the Argentine to sign a new contract. The ex-scout adds that there are no doubts that the 27-year-old has his wages increased after signing the contract extension. Not only that, but King goes on to say that Romero might be earning more than £200,000-a-week, making him one of the highest earners in the squad.

Well, not many fans can argue about Romero’s wages. The Argentina international is one of the modern-day greats of the club, and played a massive role in helping the Lilywhites win the Europa League. Not only that, but the 27-year-old has also shown time and again that he is one of the best defenders in the league.
