In addition to making their desired moves in the transfer market, Tottenham Hotspur are also taking other steps to ensure the continuity of some of the most important members of their team going forward.

In this regard, one of the actions the club took recently was to extend the contract of their centre-back Cristian Romero. The Argentine centre-back signed his new contract with Spurs on Monday, which will keep him tied to the Premier League side till 2029.

Following this successful operation, the manager Thomas Frank also expressed his happiness on Romero’s renewal. As Tottenham have reported on their official website, the head-coach had some very high praise in store for the centre-back:

“Of course, extremely happy… He’s a very important player for us, just been named captain so that speaks for itself.

“For me, he’s one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League and, to have him locked down long-term, every fan, me, staff, should be extremely happy.

Romero’s best qualities

Thomas Frank went on to speak of how high he holds Romero and highlighted some of his particular qualities:

“What he can bring on the ball: he’s extremely composed, finds the right passes, his aggression in duels and commitment and willingness to win for the team, is defending in the box is extremely good and then he’s also a set piece threat.”

The Spurs coach had also named Romero as one of his team’s captain a few days ago, and highlighted how this new responsibility would further improve the player:

“He will thrive under this captaincy… No doubt it was something he was hoping to be and wanted to be. When you have that approach, normally people take another step up and really want to go to the next level in terms of leadership. I have no doubt he will drive the team and players and help in any way he can.

The centre-back’s successful renewal is very good news for the fans as his future was quite doubtful this summer. European giants like Atletico Madrid were continuously being linked with him, but this renewal brings stability to his long-term future at Tottenham.

Hopefully, he will continue to remain an important player for Thomas Frank and will go on to repay the trust that Spurs have put in him with this new contract going forward.
