Tottenham Hotspur have massively underdelivered in the transfer market so far despite targeting several players
What was supposed to be a transfer window to look forward to, Tottenham have managed to make it a public embarrassment of all sorts. The Lilywhites were getting ready to lay out the red carpet at N17 to welcome Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze after agreeing personal terms with the player. The England international was also keen on the move and the only thing left was for both clubs to reach an agreement over the transfer money.
However, Daniel Levy took the sting out of the situation and delayed it to a point where Arsenal saw an opportunity to test the waters for the 27-year-old. The Gunners managed to make an eleventh hour bid for Eze that Palace accepted instantly. And the player also agreed to move to the Emirates Stadium instead due to his past affiliation with the club… leaving Spurs in shambles.

This is not the only time Spurs have faced an embarrassment this summer. The Lilywhites also missed out on Morgan Gibbs-White last month, despite triggering the attacker’s release clause. Nottingham Forest accused Tottenham of breaching the confidential contractual details in the agreement. Daniel Levy backed down as a result of that and the England international went on to sign a contract extension at City Ground.
Tottenham have failed to back Thomas Frank in the transfer window
Tottenham manager Thomas Frank was aiming to compete hard on all four fronts this season. The Danish tactician had come out and urged Daniel Levy to back him in the transfer market so that the Lilywhites could aim to build on the Europa League success this season. However, the Spurs chairman has failed to do that and it feels like the ex-Brentford manager is being set up to fail at N17.
Now, Alasdair Gold has given his verdict on Tottenham’s approach in the transfer market. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Gold said,
“A transfer window that, ultimately at this point, has been full of talks but really should have delivered so much more by this point. It’s an absolutely horrendous look.”
The journalist added,
“Thomas Frank’s squad isn’t strong enough for what lies ahead in any shape or form. It is another public embarrassment in the transfer market. It’s just poor the whole situation. It’s really a public mess.”
Alasdair Gold has pointed out that Tottenham have underdelivered in the transfer window and it has not given the club a good look. The journalist believes that Thomas Frank’s squad is not good enough to compete on all four fronts this season after lack of potential signings. Gold also adds that Spurs have endure a ‘public embarrassment’ in the transfer market and made a fool out of themselves by becoming a public mess.
Now, it remains to be seen how Daniel Levy approaches the final 11 days of the window. The North London club need to sign a new #10 quickly after Eberechi Eze decided to join Arsenal instead. That is not the only position that the Lilywhites need to strengthen as the left-flank also need depth going into the season. But after what has happened in the last few hours, Spurs will look to prioritise the midfield first.
