Newcastle United and Aston Villa join the race for experienced La Liga striker on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar

Date:

Tottenham Hotspur facing competition from Premier League duo for Alexander Sorloth

Tottenham Hotspur have had a very bright start to the 2025-26 season, having registered encouraging wins against Burnley and Manchester City in the first two matches of the new Premier League campaign.

The Spurs team has been impressive in almost all of its aspects in these early games of the season. However, the attack is one area of the team that the North London club is still looking to bolster further in this late stage of the summer transfer window.

In this regard, the Lilywhites have recently faced some significant setbacks, the most notable of which was Arsenal’s hijacking of their very advanced deal for the Crystal Palace forward Eberechi Eze.

However, Tottenham are still working to get their hands on new offensive reinforcements for Thomas Frank before the window closes, and one of the players who is being linked with them is the Atletico Madrid striker Alexander Sorloth.

The Norwegian is not a fixed starter for Diego Simeone, and this situation is causing significant unhappiness for the player. Spurs are looking to take advantage of this situation to land a forward who already has some experience of playing in the Premier League.

However, as per a report from CaughtOffside, this operation is also not going to be an easy one for the North London side, as Newcastle United and Aston Villa are also being linked with Sorloth.

If Tottenham are able to beat these two sides to his signature, the Norwegian could prove to be quite an effective addition to Thomas Frank’s squad. While Richarlison is performing at a very good level right now, he would provide the manager with another reliable goalscorer, who is good both in the air and with the ball at his feet.

His goalscoring skills could also come in handy if Frank decides to play him alongside Dominic Solanke in the attack, as this is an aspect in which the latter has struggled to some extent since his move to the North London team. For now, it remains to be seen how this operation develops with only a few days left in the market.
