Tottenham Hotspur challenging Chelsea for Xavi Simons
While they have had quite an exciting summer transfer window overall, the last stretch of the market has not really been very good for Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs have been looking for a new attacking midfielder in this late stage of the transfer window, but have not been able to land any of their preferred targets so far.
The biggest heartbreak came in the operation for the Crystal Palace forward Eberechi Eze, who had already agreed to join the Lilywhites before Arsenal hijacked their move with a late offer.
As things stand, the North London side is still looking to add another playmaker to their team to replace the injured James Maddison, and are being linked with several players.
One of the more prominent of these players is the RB Leipzig forward Xavi Simons, who is quite an attractive player for Tottenham. Some recent reports suggest that Spurs are already in contact with the player for a potential transfer.

Spurs now know of Xavi Simons’ preference
However, this operation is also not going to be easy for the North London side, especially as another of their London rivals, Chelsea, are also interested in the player.
In fact, as per a report from TeamTalk, the player has already made up his mind to join Enzo Maresca’s side, and Tottenham would struggle to convince him to change his mind.
Some commentators have encouraged Spurs to make a move to hijack Simon’s potential transfer to Chelsea. This sentiment is quite understandable, as the Dutchman possesses undoubtable quality and has already proven his skills playing with the RB Leipzig side in Bundesliga and the UEFA Champions League.
Last season, he played 25 games in the German top league, and got on the scoresheet 10 times, while also creating 7 goals for his teammates. He was unable to get any goal or assist in the UCL, but had another goal and assist in the DFB Pokal.
Furthermore, at 22 years of age, he has a lot of potential to grow even further, and he remains one of the most promising youngsters in European football. Meanwhile, he would also provide an immediate boost for Tottenham in a position in which they are particularly weak. Still, with his heart set on Chelsea, Spurs chances of landing him seem to be quite bleak.
