Tottenham in talks with top four rivals for defensive veteran

Date:

Tottenham Hotspur are showing interest in Manchester City star Nathan Ake

Tottenham Hotspur are having quite a busy last stretch of the 2025 summer transfer window as they are racing against the clock to ensure they further strengthen their team before the market ends.

Spurs are focused mainly on reinforcing their attack, and are being linked with several high-profile names after already having added Mohammed Kudus earlier this summer. However, they also saw Son Heung-Min leave this same summer while James Maddison also suffered a serious injury during the preseason, and thus, it is understandable why they are so keen for another forward.

Meanwhile, the Lilywhites are also looking for some additions to their midfield and defense. In the latter regard, they were being linked closely with the Bayer Leverkusen center-back Piero Hincapie lately.

Spurs in negotiations with Manchester City for Nathan Ake

As per a report from TeamTalk, another defender in whom the North London side is interested is the Manchester City center-back Nathan Ake. In fact, this report claims that Tottenham have already held talks with City for the Dutch defender’s signature.

Spurs used the eve of their Premier League match against City last weekend as an opportunity to hold talks with them for the defender. The report has not clarified how the Citizens reacted to this approach, but claims that Thomas Frank is a keen admirer of the defender.

The North London side already has a set center-back pairing of Cristian Romero and Mikey van de Ven, but having another defender, especially one as experienced as Nathan Ake, would definitely further strengthen the center-back options for Thomas Frank.

Now at 30 years of age, the Dutchman has played for several English sides, including Chelsea, Reading, Watford, Bournemouth, and Manchester City. He has performed at quite a good level, especially for Bournemouth and City, and his Premier League experience could prove to be quite valuable for Tottenham.

Spurs and City were recently also engaged in negotiations for the winger Savinho. However, the negotiations ended in a failure as the Etihad side did not want to lose the winger at this late stage of the market. Now, it remains to be seen how the negotiations for Ake go, and whether he will change clubs in this late stage of the summer transfer window.
