Fenerbahce have cooled their interest in Tottenham Hotspur outcast Yves Bissouma

Yves Bissouma has failed to live up to the expectations at Tottenham Hotspur following his move from Brighton in the summer of 2022.

The central midfielder has been in and out of the team under various managers at White Hart Lane, failing to cement a starting spot for his own. And it is fair to say that the board and fans have run out of patience with the 29-year-old.

The Mali international has been heavily linked with an exit from Spurs for several months now, and his issues with lateness have continued into new boss Thomas Frank’s reign. Yves Bissouma looked destined to leave Spurs at the end of the summer transfer window, only for his move to Turkish giants Galatasaray to fall through in the final stages.

The 29-year-old is yet to make a competitive appearance this season, and with the transfer window still open in Turkey and Saudi Arabia, there could still be an opportunity for him to leave.

Having entered the final year of his deal, Spurs have been waiting to cash in Yves Bissouma all summer. As the transfer windows are still open in Turkey and Saudi Arabia, the Lilywhites remain on the hunt for the player’s buyer.

Apart from Galatasaray’s interest in Turkey, the African enforcer has been on the radar of Fenerbahce. They have been eyeing a defensive midfielder all summer, but with manager Jose Mourinho sacked recently, the Istanbul giants have been reconsidering their plans.

Now, according to a report from Turkish outlet Takvim, Fenerbahce have distanced themselves from signing Bissouma due to concerns about his fitness. They have received the Spurs midfielder’s medical records and have subsequently cooled their interest.

Tottenham must move on Bissouma without fail

Fenerbahce taking a step back from signing Bissouma should come as a setback for Tottenham. Mourinho parting ways with Fenerbahce looks decisive, as he had held talks with the Malian, and it now looks unlikely that the Istanbul-based outfit sign him before the Super Lig deadline (September 12).

Nonetheless, there are still some Turkish and Saudi Arabian clubs interested and can still make a move for the midfielder. This lifeline could spare the Lilywhites the prospect of losing the ex-Brighton man on a free transfer next summer. Bissouma does not appear to be a part of Frank’s plans at N17 and should leave the club. With the World Cup happening next summer, he should be wary of the importance of regular game time this season.

All in all, the north Londoners must do their best to move the player on from their books and get some fee.
