Pete O’Rourke hints Tottenham could face major battle for Premier League sensation

Date:

Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers draws interest from Tottenham, Chelsea and others as Pete O’Rourke highlights his rising value and prospects

The summer of 2025 marked a new chapter for the club. After finishing 17th in the Premier League last season, change became inevitable, and new manager Thomas Frank made important decisions immediately. The club strengthened their attack and creativity by adding big names. Players such as Mohammed Kudus, Xavi Simons and Mathys Tel bring direct energy to the attack, while signings like Kevin Danso and João Palhinha improve the team’s balance.

The loan signing of Randal Kolo Muani from PSG added depth to the front line. The departure of star Heung-min Son to LAFC left a void, but overall Frank has given the team a new direction. Meanwhile, reports that Tottenham were expected to hold talks with Fabio Paratici regarding a role at the club following Daniel Levy’s departure stirred the administrative structure and made the summer story even more interesting.

Discussion and status of Morgan Rogers:

Tottenham are now engaged in a transfer saga for Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers. On Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Pete O’Rourke claimed that many big clubs are competing with Spurs for the 23-year-old attacking midfielder’s signature. He also said that the Lions have taken every step to stop the Englishman leaving Villa Park, with a high price tag fending off interest from potential suitors.

The 23-year-old has produced some stunning performances for Villa and is trying to stake a claim for a place in the squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Villa are doing everything possible to keep him, but the journalist feels things could change in next summer’s window. Rogers wants to play for a big club, especially in the Champions League. However, Spurs will face major competition from Chelsea and others if Villa decide to sell him next summer.

“It’s not just Tottenham, I think there will be a lot of clubs looking at Morgan Rogers. He’s a top player and showed that for Villa last season, and he’s played well for England and is is going to be looking to push to be in the World Cup squad.

“Aston Villa did everything they could to make sure he didn’t have to be sold in the summer, and the price tag and everything else ensured there was no deal to be done in the summer, and nothing will happen in January.

“It’ll be interesting to see come next summer where Villa are at and what type of season they’ve had. Rogers himself, now that he’s had a taste of Champions League football last year, he’s now in that England squad, he wants to continue playing at the highest level.

“I’m sure it’d be more than just Tottenham who’d be interested in Rogers, think you’d have the likes of Chelsea and others who would be interested if he did become available in the market.”

Why Spurs want him?

Morgan Rogers fits Thomas Frank’s game plan well because he offers versatility. His strength, dribbling and creativity set him apart, and, importantly, his work rate suits Frank’s high-pressing style. Rogers can play on the wing, operate as a No. 10 and even support the striker when needed. The manager can readily slot him into formations such as 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1 or 3-5-2.

Rogers can contribute to the attack and lead the defensive effort, which is key to Frank’s vision. If Aston Villa face Financial Fair Play pressure, Tottenham could get their chance. Chelsea’s interest would increase competition, but Spurs should already be preparing. Since Frank’s arrival, the club’s vision has been clear: invest in young and versatile players.

In this context, Fabrizio Romano has provided insight into how Tottenham signed French striker Randal Kolo Muani on Deadline Day. This reminds us that the club can add the right player even at the last minute. That confidence keeps us optimistic about a deal for Rogers. Things will change next summer, and, as Spurs fans, we can only hope Frank includes Rogers in his plans.
