Former Premier League manager Sam Allardyce wants Thomas Frank to address one grave issue at Tottenham Hotspur
Much has been talked about Tottenham Hotspur’s defensive unit this season. Thomas Frank has been working hard behind the scenes to help Spurs achieve stability at the back, and to some extent, he has succeeded.
The team inherited by the Danish tactician was playing fast, furious and chaotic football under Ange Postecoglou. Thomas Frank wants his players to be measured in their approach, building patiently from the back and stitching attacks from wide areas. While Tottenham’s rearguard has looked solid, the attacking unit is yet to click into gears.
This is perhaps down to the arrival of fresh faces during the summer transfer window. Mohammed Kudus has been the Lilywhites’ best attacker, providing four assists in six Premier League starts. However, the Ghanaian star is yet to score his first goal in our famous white shirt. Similarly, fellow summer signing Xavi Simons hasn’t broken his Tottenham duck.

Former Premier League boss highlights Tottenham’s biggest concern under Thomas Frank
Tottenham have hit their first rough patch under the new boss. The north London outfit have drawn three of their last four matches in all competitions, including against Brighton, Wolves and Bodo/Glimt. Frank’s men were lucky to escape with a point from Norway in midweek, having come from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Bodo/Glimt.
Truly, Spurs have struggled to create chances over recent weeks, which has seen them drop points against Brighton, Wolves and Bodo/Glimt.
As such, former Premier League boss Sam Allardyce has highlighted Tottenham’s lack of scoring ability a big concern under Frank. The veteran Englishman also suggests this could be a real problem for the Europa League winners moving forward if not addressed quickly.
“Tottenham. I think Thomas Frank is brilliant at what he does. But you know, will they score enough goals? Sam Allardyce told Tippy Tappy Football.
“Have they got enough goals? That’s probably one of the things that I’d be concerned about.”
Tottenham are struggling to score goals already
Frank has decided to give Richarlison one final opportunity to prove his worth at Spurs. After scoring a brace in the opening weekend victory over Burnley and netting in the 2-2 draw with Brighton, Richarlison has struggled as expected. The Brazilian was an anonymous figure in the 2-2 draw with Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League earlier this week, raising concerns whether he’s a long-term solution to Tottenham’s goalscoring woes.
Moreover, Dominic Solanke is facing a spell on the sidelines after undergoing an ankle surgery, while Randal Kolo Muani is not yet ready to feature after overcoming dead leg. Then you add James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski’s long-term injuries into the mix, and it is not rocket-science why the Lilywhites are finding it difficult to create chances and score goals.
If Frank wants to see Tottenham enjoy a successful season, he must push the board to invest in a striker during the January transfer window. Without a regular source of goals, it’d be hard for Spurs to compete realistically in all competitions.
