Not Guehi: Tottenham and Liverpool monitoring Crystal Palace defender ahead of January window

Date:

Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool are among the clubs eyeing Crystal Palace star Maxence Lacroix

Tottenham Hotspur have been looking to bring in a new central defender for a while. We saw Daniel Levy scrambling through targets during his final weeks at the helm in the recently concluded summer window.

While many names were suggested in the rumour mill, none of those came through, and the need to bring in a new centre back remains at Hotspur Way.

The chiefs at N17 are still looking. And they have reportedly identified 25-year-old French CB Maxence Lacroix, who plies his trade for Crystal Palace. The Lilywhites are eyeing up a move for him in 2026, with the club currently monitoring Lacroix, as per Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur.

But Tottenham are not alone in the race for his signature. Spurs’ Premier League rivals Liverpool are also said to be interested in his signature. The decision-makers at Kirkby are looking at him as a possible alternative to Marc Guehi, who has been a long-time target at L4.

Though alongside the English top-tier duo, German giants Borussia Dortmund are also said to be interested in landing his signature.

We have seen the 25-year-old become one of the integral parts of the backline for the South Londoners in barely any time, given that he only moved to Selhurst Park in August 2024. Given his performances of late, he has been one of the more reliable centre-backs in the country.

This is not the first time his name has popped up around Hotspur Way. French outlet L’Equipe had a report back in summer which suggested the Lilywhites’ interest in securing his signature. And it looks like Tottenham have gone nowhere and are still considering a possible move for him.

Given that the long-term futures of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are still blurry, it is sensible for the recruitment team to continue assessing players who can take over the reins from the aforementioned two, both of whom have been linked with a move to Spain.

It is to be seen where this goes. But this again shows that the club are persistent in bringing players who have proved their credentials in the Premier League. And given his performances, Maxence Lacroix is one of the better options in terms of the players that would be available for the right price.
