Tottenham leapfrog Chelsea and Brighton in the race to sign €40 million Brazilian prodigy

Date:

Tottenham Hotspur lead the race for Brazilian star Rayan

Tottenham Hotspur have been looking to bring in highly talented young players and develop them through the corridors of Hotspur Way. As the chiefs at the helm at N17 look to keep up the transfer strategy that Daniel Levy adapted in his final years as chairman of the club. And in a bid to bring in some of the brightest prospects in world football to North London, the Lilywhites have been linked with one of South America’s most exciting young wingers in Brazilian sensation Rayan of Vasco da Gama.

The Lilywhites have been one of the few clubs from the continent that has kept keeping tabs on the 19-year-old closely of late. And as per the new reports, it looks like Thomas Frank & Co. have now moved ahead of Premier League rivals in Chelsea and Brighton in the pursuit to sign the Vasco da Gama starlet.

Tottenham watching Rayan

Vasco winger Rayan has transfer interest from Spurs and Chelsea.

As per the latest reports by Calciomercato.it, the scouts from Tottenham’s recruitment team made a trip to Brazil to watch Rayan in person. And they are said to have been impressed by what they saw, given how Rayan has been enjoying an in-form season in the Brasileiro.

Rayan is said to have a €40 million (£34.3m) release clause. And he has been drawing attention given his pace and composure in one-on-one situations. And Tottenham are now seen as the new frontrunners for his signature. There have been names of Nottingham Forest that have popped up also, but they are currently lagging far behind in the race.

There is also an understanding that despite his heavy release clause, the Brazilian club values him at around €20m–€30m (£17.4m–£26.1m). And now that is a figure that Vinai Venkatsham may consider to sanction to secure his services in the upcoming January transfer window.

The report also adds that Tottenham have already held preliminary talks with his representatives. They were only trying to gauge his interest in a possible switch to North London. But this is where early groundwork for a possible transfer is laid.

TTLB Opinion

This looks like one of the transfers that ideally has Daniel Levy written all over it. But this also shows how big of an impact that he has had at Hotspur Way. And the fact that Tottenham are leading the race for him and already putting an understanding to his openness to move to N17 also shows how the club is laying early ground and moving ahead of the competition. This is elite work from those at the top at the club.
