Journo claims Tottenham chiefs believe Xavi Simons will become a superstar in the future

Tottenham Hotspur defeated Leeds United 2-1 over the weekend, which saw them head into the international break third in the Premier League table.

Mohammed Kudus was once again the difference-maker as Spurs edged past Leeds United in the Premier League. He broke his Tottenham duck with a left-footed strike albeit a deflection which wrong-footed goalkeeper Karl Darlow, whilst grabbing an assist at Elland Road. Mathys Tel also scored in the game- his first for Tottenham this season.

After a tough midweek Champions League outing at Bodo/Glimt, the Lilywhites overcame a tough assignment against Leeds, which former Premier League striker turned pundit Peter Crouch felt was a testament to the club’s changing mentality under Thomas Frank. Another player who was fantastic in the victory at Leeds was Xavi Simons.

Xavi Simons, deployed in the No.10 role against Daniel Farke’s side, finally demonstrated the creativity, invention and technical brilliance that Tottenham fans had been craving to watch. Though he did not get an assist or found himself on the scoresheet, the Dutchman was the glue between midfield and attack and drove the team forward in every occasion he got the ball. As such, the 22-yer-old was rightly praised by his gaffer after the game.

Xavi Simons’ future prediction made at Tottenham

Xavi Simons arrived at Tottenham in a £52m deal from RB Leipzig during the final week of the summer transfer window. The Netherlands international has endured a slow start to life in north London, with talkSPORT pundit Gabby Agbonlahor labelling him “unconvincing”. However, Spurs legend Graham Roberts hailed the 22-year-old’s display at Elland Road.

By his own admission, Frank is still figuring out the creative talent’s best position, having already used him on the left flank, as a No.10 and in a three-man midfield. There is a reason why the north London splashed such a hefty fee for his services, and the quality has been there for everyone to see.

Now, Tottenham have a very clear stance on Xavi, having had several weeks to assess the summer signing. According to TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey, Spurs have been impressed with Xavi and are confident that, over time, he will become a ‘superstar’ in North London.

“The belief in the club is that they have a potential superstar; they have been so impressed with him,” Graeme Bailey exclusively told TBR Football.

“Thomas Frank is taking his time finding the best role, but that is true of much of the squad. But he loves what he is seeing. The player is happy, committed and feels he made the right choice in the summer.”

Xavi brings a different flavour to the Tottenham side

Xavi brings a unique dynamic to Spurs’ frontline. His movement- being equally capable of cutting inside or dropping deep to- makes him a difficult player to mark. Beyond his flair and creativity, the Netherlands international does not shy away from sliding into challenges and tackles- as evidenced by two yellow cards seen thus far. He contributes significantly off the ball and that is a part Frank wants to see from every Tottenham player on the pitch.

Xavi’s best outing in our famous white shirt could not have come at a better time, as the Lilywhites enter the international break just two points behind league leaders and arch-rivals Arsenal. Fans will hope that the creative attacker manages to build on his performance as a No.10 at Leeds after the international break and help Frank’s compete hard on all fronts this term.
