Richarlison has been one of the standout players for Tottenham Hotspur this season
It is fair to say that Richarlison has yet to fully justify his price tag since making his high-profile move from Everton to Tottenham Hotspur in 2022. The Brazil international’s time at N17 has been marred by injury setbacks and inconsistent form, preventing him from finding rhythm or cementing a regular place in the starting line-up. Under Ange Postecoglou, he often found himself slipping down the pecking order, leading many to believe that his time in North London was nearing its end.
However, Thomas Frank saw things differently. The Danish tactician decided to hand the 28-year-old one final opportunity to prove his worth when he arrived at Spurs in the summer. And to his credit, Richarlison has made the most of it.

The Brazilian hit the ground running this season, bagging a brace against Burnley on the opening day before following it up with a standout performance against Manchester City. His impressive start has not only revived his confidence but also earned him the status of first-choice striker under Frank, a remarkable turnaround from where he stood just a few months ago. Given his resurgence and importance to the side, it now looks unlikely that Tottenham will consider selling him any time soon.
Thomas Frank needs to rest Tottenham forward Richarlison
That said, Richarlison’s form has dipped slightly in recent weeks. Fatigue appears to be catching up with the 28-year-old, as he looks a shadow of his early-season self. His recent displays have lacked sharpness, forcing Spurs to sit deeper and absorb pressure right from kickoff.
Echoing this concern, Alasdair Gold has shared his verdict on Richarlison’s season so far. Writing in his column for Football.London, Gold said,
“Started the season superbly, including that brace against Burnley, and he netted to spark the comeback at Brighton while also grabbing an assist at Manchester City, but he’s looked like a player overplayed because of the injury situation up front.”
The journalist added,
“The Brazilian’s consistency has dropped, as has his movement into dangerous areas. He’s staying fit though at the moment which is a huge plus and he will benefit, even if he might not like it, from the other strikers returning to give him a rest.”
Alasdair Gold’s assessment hits the nail on the head. Richarlison has been overplayed due to Tottenham’s ongoing injury crisis up front, and that heavy workload is clearly affecting his consistency and energy levels. Once other forwards return to full fitness, a brief spell out of the firing line could do him a world of good, both physically and mentally.
For now, fans will hope that the Brazilian’s confidence doesn’t waver. With the World Cup on the horizon, Richarlison has plenty of motivation to keep pushing himself and performing at the highest level. The striker remains determined to earn a place in Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil squad, and that hunger can only benefit Tottenham as they continue their charge under Thomas Frank this season.
