Tottenham Hotspur target Karl Etta Eyong is wanted by Manchester United in the January transfer window
Tottenham Hotspur adequately backed new boss Thomas Frank during the summer transfer window, bringing in as many as eight players.
Mohammed Kudus has been the standout performer, making an impact for the Lilywhites and seamlessly slotting into Thomas Frank’s system. Fellow summer signing Joao Palhinha has been excellent too, adding a much-needed layer of protection in front of the backline. Tottenham are keen to trigger their option to sign Palhinha, regardless of the Portuguese being a matter of months into his loan spell from Bayern Munich.
Yet, Spurs are far from a complete unit and have several areas in the squad that require addressing in the next transfer windows. One area of focus has to be the striker department, especially due to the fact that Dominic Solanke and Randal Kolo Muani are currently sidelined. This has left Richarlison to shoulder the responsibility of leading the attack for Thomas Frank’s side almost in every game, and knowing his fitness record, Spurs fans remain worried.

Manchester United initiate contact with Tottenham target Karl Etta Eyong
Tottenham have shown an interest in signing Levante striker Karl Etta Eyong. Since joining Levante from Villarreal in the past summer transfer window, Karl Etta Eyong has already scored five goals and provided three assists in eight league appearances. The Cameroonian has quickly become a valuable asset for Levante, unsurprisingly catching the attention of several European bigwigs in the process.
Now, according to a report from Spanish outlet Sport, Manchester United have entered the race for Eyong. They have initiated contacts with Levante over the 21-year-old to try and become the frontrunners for his signature.
The freshly capped Cameroonian international signed for Levante in a deal which included an option for Villarreal to buy him. His release clause was increased from €10 million to €30 million, and the striker accepted the transfer to Levante as it guaranteed him regular first-team action. However, the unique agreement with Villarreal, which still holds part of the selling rights, could facilitate a transfer if an offer close to €15 million arrives, the report adds.

Tottenham must move for Eyong in January
On Thursday morning, Spurs confirmed that their majority owners had injected capital of £100m into the club. The club made it clear that the cash injection was intended to support CEO Vinai Venkatesham, the club’s technical staff and Thomas Frank to deliver sporting success. This proved how committed the Lewis Family remain to the club amid recent takeover speculation.
Frank would want the freshly pumped equity into the club to be freed during the winter transfer window. The Dane is keen on reinforcing the attacking areas of the pitch, and Eyong would improve his squad massively for the second half of the season. Manchester United entering the race for the Levante hitman complicates things, though. They have struggled to score goals despite splashing a huge outlay on Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha in the summer. Thus, the Red Devils’ interest in Eyong makes sense.
If Spurs are ambitious and want to win trophies this season, they must make additions to Frank’s roster in January. At 21, Eyong could prove a sensible, long-term investment, bringing much-needed firepower to N17 and potentially becoming a replacement for Richarlison. That said, we must start making plans behind the scenes to tempt the Cameroonian to north London in 2026.
