Tottenham Hotspur emerge as shock suitors for Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez
Tottenham Hotspur were on the hunt for reinforcements in the middle of the park in the summer. James Maddison tore his ACL in a pre-season game against Newcastle United in August and is out for the foreseeable future. To make matters worse, Dejan Kulusevski has also been out with an injury.
Spurs managed to bring in Joao Palhinha on a season-long loan from Bayern Munich in the summer, before adding creative Dutch talent Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig in the final week of the transfer window. Palhinha has been among the standout performers in Thomas Frank’s side, adding balance and stability to their midfield. Xavi has endured a slow start to life in N17, but knowing his talent and potential, it is only a matter of time before he starts wreaking havoc against opponents.
Thomas Frank is seemingly not satisfied with his current options in the middle of the park. Several midfield talents have been linked with a move to Spurs in recent weeks. Rangers talent Nico Raskin has been added to the midfield shortlist, while the Tottenham boss wants to reunite with Brentford midfielder Yehor Yarmolyuk.
And now the Lilywhites have been linked with a shock move for Chelsea star.

Tottenham among clubs interested in Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez
According to a report from Fichajes, Tottenham have linked with a surprise move for Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez. Liverpool, Manchester United and Real Madrid have also shown an interest in the 24-year-old ahead of the winter transfer window.
Chelsea paid in excess of £100 million for Enzo Fernandez in February 2023 in a then British-record deal from Benfica. After a mixed 15 months, the Argentinean has managed to become a consistent force in midfield for the Blues under Enzo Maresca. The 2022 World Cup winner has operated in multiple positions across midfield since the start of last season, essaying key roles in the Blues’ UEFA Conference League and Club World Cup success.
So, it is not rocket-science why the Pensioners want to keep hold of Fernandez amid interest from European giants. Real Madrid are the most interested in the central midfielder, having followed him since his time at Benfica. The aforementioned report adds Xabi Alonso wants to recruit the South American talent to plug the gaps in midfield left by maestros Luka Modric and Toni Kroos in the last couple of years, but Fernandez is satisfied with life at Chelsea.

Tottenham links make no sense!
It is very odd to see a Chelsea player getting linked with Spurs. The two London clubs share a frosty relationship both on and off the pitch, and the fixtures between them over the years have been nothing less than fiery.
As far as Fernandez is concerned, there is no doubt that he is a quality midfielder and has improved little facets in his game under Maresca’s tutelage. He has mostly played in an advanced midfield role since the Italian’s arrival at Stamford Bridge in 2024, using his technical and creative qualities to help the Blues in the final third.
However, there cannot be anything more to the Argentinean international’s links with Tottenham than bogus rumours. The ex-Benfica star is showing his quality in the Premier League every week, and he will look to take on a different challenge if he decides to leave Chelsea. A move to Real Madrid should be more appealing and realistic for Fernandez.
