Everton could resurrect their interest in Tottenham Hotspur star Richarlison in the January transfer window
Tottenham Hotspur began the season brightly but have gone off the boil of late. Just one win has come from their last five matches across all competitions- a 2-1 success at Leeds United before the October international break. Spurs were lucky to come home with a point from AS Monaco in the Champions League, all thanks to Guglielmo Vicario.
Last weekend’s 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa and the goalless draw at AS Monaco has once highlighted Tottenham’s problems in attack. Thomas Frank has several key attackers in the form of Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison and Dominic Solanke sidelined, while the iconic Son Heung-min departed the club after 10 years in the summer.
Owing to Solanke’s persistent ankle issues, Richarlison started the new campaign as Thomas Frank’s first-choice No.9. He began the season well with a brace against Burnley on the opening weekend. However, the Brazilian international’s performance levels have dipped in recent weeks. He was anonymous in the 0-0 draw with AS Monaco, having struggled to impose himself in the game before being substituted in the second half.

Everton planning to re-sign Richarlison
Richarlison was heavily linked with an exit from Tottenham in the summer. He has been injury prone for quite some time now and saw his minutes dwindle last term due to fitness concerns, limiting him to just four goals in 15 Premier League outings. Frustrated with his poor fitness record and hugely inconsistent performances, Spurs had transfer-listed the forward during the summer transfer window.
Everton were among the clubs to have shown an interest in signing the Tottenham centre-forward. The Merseysiders viewed him as a potential replacement for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who left the club on a free transfer in June and joined Leeds United. However, a move did not transpire then, and manager David Moyes poured cold water on rumours of Richarlison returning to the club by stating there is “zero truth in that from my side”.
Now, according to a report from TEAMtalk, Everton will get a chance to revive their interest in Richarlison in January, as Tottenham plot a revamp in the forward department. This could open the door for the 28-year-old to leave and give the Toffees an opportunity to bring back their former fan favourite to the club.
The Toffees are seeking to improve their forward options when the transfer window reopens in January. David Moyes wants more quality in the striker department, having seen Beto and Thierno Barry struggle to score goals.

Richarlison sale would be dependant on an adequate replacement
Richarlison’s future at White Hart Lane has increasingly come under the scanner, and now Everton planning to pounce on him in the winter window would further add to the speculation. At 28, the South American should be at the peak of his powers and scoring goals left, right and centre. Instead, he is still battling inconsistency, and the forward’s recent displays should be enough to suggest he’s done at Spurs.
However, Frank and the Hotspur Way chiefs just cannot sanction the sale of Richarlison. They must first identify and get a quality striker in as his potential replacement before pushing him out of the door. It will be interesting to see whether Everton come calling for their former star’s signature or head elsewhere to address their goalscoring problem.
Tottenham travel to the brand-new Hill Dickinson Stadium to face Everton on Sunday. It could prove to be a big afternoon for Richarlison facing his former employers.
