Everton looking to sign Tottenham target Harry Maguire on loan from Manchester United
According to Football Insider (h/t Liverpool Echo), Everton are looking to sign Tottenham Hotspur target Harry Maguire from Manchester United this summer.
The English centre-back has become somewhat of a laughingstock at Old Trafford and the club are looking to get rid of him. He has been stripped of his captaincy and reduced to a mere rotational role.
Tottenham have been linked with a move for Harry Maguire without actually pushing hard for him. They have been there and thereabouts with regards to their interest but the asking price and the wages are always going to be an issue.
Maguire has not really been a great defender for Manchester United. He has always had a mistake in him and the Red Devils fans have grown tired of him. At this point, they just want him out of the club.
The curious case with Maguire is the fact that he somehow seems a different player whenever he turns out for England. Under Gareth Southgate, the Englishman seems like a world-class defender.
One thing that we can be pretty honest about Maguire is the fact that he is not the prettiest defender there is. However, he is never someone to shy away from a tackle or do what it takes to get the ball out of the opposition’s feet.
Everton are keen on signing Maguire on loan and it remains to be seen if Man United are willing to let him go temporarily. One more thing to keep an eye on is if Tottenham step up their interest now.
Will Maguire be an improvement on the existing defence? It is a very difficult question to answer. The Maguire of Leicester City will be an improvement but the Maguire of Manchester United won’t.
