New Tottenham arrival praised for 'unbelievable' exercise on day one of pre-season

Lucas Bergvall shines on day one at Spurs as pre-season begins

New signing Lucas Bergvall shone on his first day at Tottenham Hotspur as the players reported for duty for the 2024/25 pre-season.

The 2006-born midfielder has arrived from Swedish side Djurgården and featured in the clips shared by the club’s in-house media team on their official YouTube channel.

The Sweden international’s arrival at the north London club was confirmed earlier this year.

Bergvall joined Djurgården from Brommapojkarna, whose academy he graduated from, ahead of the 2023 Allsvenskan season, but took only a year before big European clubs came calling for him.

Across all competitions, Bergvall turned out for Djurgården 47 times, scoring 9 goals and providing 6 assists in those appearances. (Source: Transfermarkt)

Bergvall’s contract at Spurs will fetch him around £1.6 million per year.

Spurs building a strong young core

Bergvall is of course not the only 18-year-old midfielder Spurs have roped in ahead of next season; Archie Gray has also arrived from Leeds United.

While Bergvall is more of an attacking midfielder, Gray is more adept in defensive positions, which means we could see the two teenagers pairing up in the centre of the pitch as the season progresses.

Spurs Technical Director Johan Lange made promises about making Spurs an attractive destination for young players; clearly, he’s delivering on that promise.

Whether Spurs actually go on to win something under Ange Postecoglou remains to be seen, but at least they’re back to being an exciting team to watch.
