To that end, they have once again thrown their hat into the ring for a rising star in Liga Portugal.
Tottenham part of six-team Premier League group chasing Braga forward Roger Fernandes
As reported by Portuguese outlet O Jogo, further confirmed in the English media by SportWitness, Tottenham are one of six Premier League clubs monitoring Braga’s teenage sensation Roger Fernandes.
The Guinea Bissau-born player is in his third senior season at Braga. A wide operator, Fernandes mostly plays in the final third of the pitch but has also been deployed in the left-fullback role.
The other Premier League clubs monitoring the 18-year-old are Chelsea, Arsenal, Aston Villa, Brighton, and Newcastle. The Magpies, in particular, have been interested in him for about two years now.
Fernandes has already made 16 appearances this season across all competitions, registering two goals and an assist. Valued by Transfermarkt at €10 million, his current contract at Braga runs until June 2028.
The 2005-born player is also attracting interest from mainland Europe, with Atlético Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen, PSV, and Ajax monitoring his progress.
Get them early
The Premier League interest in Roger Fernandes is another example of the English clubs, most of them now significantly more wealthy than their European counterparts, are capable of not only splurging the cash but also use said money to scout promising talents early, no longer needing to rely on feeder clubs as much as they had to in the past.
Of course, this comes with its own negative implications, but we cannot get into that right now.
Fernandes’ recent goal-scoring exploits have further put clubs on red alert, and it won’t be surprising at all if he were to make the jump next season itself.
