Tottenham star Dominic Solanke suffered a knee injury last month that is now expected to keep him out for longer
It took Tottenham Hotspur the entire January transfer window to sign a forward in the form of Mathys Tel on loan from Bayern Munich. And it took Dominic Solanke and Brennan Johnson’s back-to-back injuries for Spurs to accelerate their plans to land Tel at the start of February.
Dominic Solanke suffered an unfortunate knee injury in training in the lead up to the away game against Everton in January. The Englishman, signed on a club-record deal from Bournemouth last summer, is the club’s top scorer and his absence has unsurprisingly hurt Ange Postecoglou’s side—especially in the Carabao Cup second-leg semi-final defeat to Liverpool and the FA Cup fourth-round loss to Aston Villa.
Since suffering a knee injury in mid-January, the 27-year-old has missed 11 games. And it looks like he could be out for longer than first feared following the latest update from a medical expert.

According to Dr Rajpal Brar, Dominic Solanke was initially expected to resume training by mid-February, but there seems to be a change. The injury expert has revealed that this injury is expected to keep him out on the sidelines for a few more weeks, although he will not be requiring surgery on his knee.
“Based on the mechanism of the injury, knee twisting per Ange, this sounds like either a Grade 2 ligament injury or a meniscus injury,” Dr Rajpal Brar exclusively told Tottenham News.
“Initially, it sounded like would’ve been back in training by mid-February but he’s now set to be out longer than expected initially and does not seem likely to return until March.
“He’s not going to need surgery but it’s just the nature of these injuries.”
Solanke’s timescale being extended is a big blow for Postecoglou and Tottenham. The England international has yet to become a consistent source of goals at White Hart Lane; yet, his pressing, off-the-ball work ethic, energy, hold-up and link-up play add a lot more value to Big Ange’s side than just goals.

11 goals in 29 appearances across all competitions is still a decent return for a striker in his first season at a club and adapting to a different system. Given the fee Spurs spent on his services, fans have every right to ask more from the striker, and with more time, cohesion and adjustment, Solanke is certain to score more goals for the Lilywhites.

Now, Solanke is probably going to require close monitoring in the coming weeks to make sure he is able to recover fully from his knee issue and return to the squad. The Reading-born talent’s availability during the business end of the campaign would make a huge difference to Big Ange’s white army.
