Ange Postecoglou has led Tottenham to Europa League glory this season

Tottenham Hotspur have managed to do the unthinkable by winning their first major trophy in 17 years. The Lilywhites beat Manchester United 1-0 in the Europa League final at the San Mames Stadium in Bilbao. It was a game that had a lot riding on it for the North London club. But it was Ange Postecoglou’s men that rose to the occasion and stepped up when it mattered the most.

The Spurs fans can now forget about their disastrous domestic campaign and celebrate the fact that Ange’s men have managed to bring European silverware back to N17 after 41 years. Winning the competition has also ensured Champions League football for the Lilywhites next season. This season has been full of ups and downs, but Spurs have ended the campaign on a high and given the fans a lasting memory.

As far as Ange Postecoglou’s job is concerned, the Australian has etched his name in the club’s history books by achieving the astonishing feat. The 59-year-old has gone through a lot of scrutiny in recent months regarding the mediocre performances in the Premier League. But it is fair to say that the ex-Celtic boss has proved his critics wrong and turned the North London club’s fortunes around.

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has been staring at the barrel of the gun for quite some time now. The Australian has been on the verge of getting sacked since weeks. The Europa League was acting as the saving grace for the 59-year-old and Big Ange has managed to win the competition against all odds.

When asked about his thoughts after the final whistle, Ange Postecoglou told TNT Sports,

“I’m still trying to take it all in. I know what it means for this football club and, unfortunately, the longer it goes on, the harder it is to break that cycle sometimes.”

The Spurs manager added,

“I just had this thing inside me, that more than anything else, and I know our league form has been terrible, nowhere near good enough and unacceptable, but us finishing third wasn’t going to change this football club, the only thing that was going to change this football club was us winning something.”

Ange Postecoglou suggested that he is still trying to take it all in after winning the Europa League. The Spurs manager also insisted that he wanted to win something at the end of the season after enduring a disastrous Premier League campaign. Big Ange added that the only way to save the season and keep the fans on their side was by aiming to end the campaign with silverware.

Now, all eyes will be on Daniel Levy as the managerial decision at N17 looms large. It was reported earlier that Levy would replace Ange Postecoglou once the season ended, irrespective of the outcome in the Europa League final. But now there is an increasing feeling that the Spurs chairman might just keep Big Ange on board for next season.
