Tottenham exceeded all expectations by winning the Europa League this season

Not many would have thought that Tottenham would end up winning the Europa League whilst finishing just a place above the relegation zone in the Premier League. But the Lilywhites managed to do the unthinkable and went all the way in the competition against all odds. The historic win in Bilbao also brought an end to the 17-year wait for a major trophy for the North London club.

Many players and managers have come and gone at N17 since the turn of the century, but not many managed to do what this crop of Spurs players did this season. Winning the Europa League also ensured that the Lilywhites qualified for Champions League football for next season. The chance to test themselves against top teams next year will be a spectacle to follow at Hotspur Way.

For some current Tottenham players, it was a special moment after the club managed to go all the way in the Europa League. Club captain Heung-Min Son and reliable defender Ben Davies have been at N17 for more than a decade now, and both players managed to win their first silverware in the most unexpected way possible. The trophy parade that followed the Europa League success was also a sight for the sore eyes.

Kyle Walker wishes to be a part of the Tottenham team that won the UEL

The Europa League success that Tottenham endured shook the footballing community. Many former players and staff affiliated with the Lilywhites at some point in time came out and showcased their emotions as the North London club ended their long-standing trophy drought. All the heartbreaks and near misses in recent years were triumphed by the historic win that Spurs endured last month in Bilbao.

Now, ex-Spurs player Kyle Walker has also admitted that he wished to be a part of this squad that won the Europa League. Speaking on the Kyle Walker podcast, Walker said,

“I’d probably give up one Premier League to win that [the Europa League] with Tottenham. I would, if I could change it, just to say that I was in that Spurs squad that won a trophy, [the first] since 2007. I know what it means. I’d give my second [PL title], it’s hard to give one away, but for what that moment meant [I would].”

Kyle Walker suggested that he would willingly give up one of his Premier League titles to win a trophy with Tottenham. The ex-Spurs player also added that winning a trophy with the North London club is a special feeling and he would trade one of his titles to just experience that. Walker acknowledged what the Europa League success means for the fans and praised the club for getting over the line in the final.

The shock admission made by the 35-year-old just shows how impressive the win actually is. The Lilywhites have always found a way to bottle it in the end, but to actually get over the line and win European silverware after 41 years will forever be a lasting memory for the fans and current players affiliated with the club. They all have etched their name in the history books, regardless of what happens from now on under Thomas Frank.
