Paul O'Keefe says Tottenham could rival Man United for Bryan Mbeumo if Thomas Frank arrives

Tottenham are rivalling Manchester United for the signing of Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo

Tottenham Hotspur have turned to Thomas Frank as Ange Postecoglou’s successor, despite the Australian guiding the club back into the Champions League after securing the Europa League trophy in May.

The Danish tactician is expected to be backed significantly in the summer transfer window to bolster a squad that was ravaged by injuries during the 2024/25 campaign and finished a lowly 17th in the table. The Lilywhites have already turned centre-back Kevin Danso’s loan into a permanent switch from RC Lens, and on Sunday, Thomas Frank’s first official signing was confirmed in the form of Mathys Tel. The French forward made the permanent move to North London from Bayern Munich in a reported €45m deal, which is significantly less than what Bayern were initially asking for.

Despite Tel’s capture, Tottenham remain in the hunt for new attacking reinforcements are already in the mix for Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo.

The Cameroonian has been one of the Brentford’s standout performers in recent years. He directly contributed to 27 goals in the Premier League for the Bees this past season, forging a tremendous partnership with Yoane Wissa. A lot of Frank’s success in attack was down to his African duo, and the new Spurs boss now is keen on a reunion with Yoane Wissa.

Will Bryan Mbeumo be a good signing for Tottenham?

Following Frank’s appointment, Tottenham have wasted no time in their bid to sign Mbeumo by tabling an eye-watering £70million bid. They are facing stiff competition from Manchester United, with the 25-year-old forward still keen on a move to Old Trafford.

Now, Dr Rajpal Brar, an injury expert, has assessed the fitness of Mbeumo ahead of a possible move to White Hart Lane. He feels Spurs may want to have a closer look at the African ace’s ankle injury from 2023/24 campaign, but expects a deal to go through if the two clubs can agree on a fee and Frank manages to convince Mbeumo to follow him.

“The club may take a closer look at his ankle to see if there’s any increased wear and tear from that significant injury in the 2023/24 season,” Dr Rajpal Brar exclusively told Tottenham News.

“But, based on his level this past season, I wouldn’t expect musculoskeletal issues on the medical.

“He played all 38 games in the Premier League and that’s what you need as a player.”

Thomas Frank wants to bring Bryan Mbeumo with him to Tottenham

Mbeumo has proven himself in the Premier League, establishing himself a top forward under the tutelage of Frank. The Danish tactician has played a significant role in the player’s development, and after spending six years with the Bees, the Cameroonian star looks primed for a bigger move this summer.

With his pace, dynamism, directness, creativity and ruthless finishing, the former France youth international could be a sensational addition to Tottenham’s attacking ranks and complement players such as Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison, Brennan Johnson and Dominic Solanke. He played all 38 league games last season—a testament to Mbeumo’s fitness and endurance which is a big green flag in any potential move to Spurs.

Having made a bigger bid than Man United, Frank and Tottenham will now hope it gets accepted by Brentford and Mbeumo has a change of heart over his next move.
