Tottenham have long-standing interest in signing Brentford striker Yoane Wissa

The time has come for Tottenham to make some moves in the transfer market after enduring a slow start to the summer. The managerial situation at N17 forced the Lilywhites to delay the decision-making process for bringing in new players for next season. But now that Thomas Frank is appointed, the North London club must shift their focus on strengthening the squad and back the Danish tactician.

The Lilywhites are already playing catch-up with other clubs in the transfer market. The Spurs fans have also grown frustrated with the lack of movement as there is a clear need for a massive squad overhaul in the coming weeks. Daniel Levy wants Tottenham to build on the Europa League success and win more trophies, but the club chairman has not yet walked the talk in terms of bringing in reinforcements.

One of the major issues that the North London club needs to address is the number nine position. Spurs have only one fit and firing striker in their ranks in Dominic Solanke. The England international also endured a ‘stop-start’ first campaign at N17, and just needs good competition next season to get back to speed.

Tottenham might find it tough to land Brentford striker Yoane Wissa

There is no surprise that Tottenham are looking to add a new striker to compete with Dominic Solanke next season. It was reported earlier that Spurs were interested in signing Brentford star Yoane Wissa in the summer. The DR Congo international has only a year left in his contract at the Gtech Stadium, and wants to head for pastures new if a suitable offer comes in.

The 28-year-old’s teammate Bryan Mbeumo is also linked with a move to the Lilywhites and Man United. And it is more likely that the Cameroon international makes the switch before Wissa as a higher fee is offered for his services. Now, John Wenham believes that the Bees will not sell Yoane Wissa if they sanction a move for Mbeumo in the coming weeks. Speaking to Tottenham News, Wenham said,

“Wissa is a good player. However, I don’t see us buying both Wissa and Mbeumo if I’m being honest. Brentford won’t sell both players this summer, for their own sake. While Wissa is a good player, I would put Mbeumo above him. However, we were linked with Wissa in the winter transfer window. Therefore, there is obviously a long-standing interest, as I’m sure there is from other clubs.”

John Wenham has suggested that Brentford will not allow both their key players to leave in the summer as they look for Premier League survival next season. The Lilywhite Rose owner added that Yoane Wissa is a good player, but Spurs should prioritise signing Bryan Mbeumo instead. Wenham also pointed out that Tottenham have a long-standing interest in Wissa, and might test the waters for the DR Congo international.

It remains to be seen what Daniel Levy decides to do in the coming weeks. The Lilywhites cannot waste much time on convincing the player or the club to sanction a move, and fans will hope that Levy shifts his focus to other options if a deal cannot be reached with Brentford for the 28-year-old.
