Tottenham are looking to bring in midfield reinforcements for next season

Tottenham need to revamp their midfield for next season if they want to close the gap on their rivals quickly. The Lilywhites struggled to control the tempo of most games last season under Ange Postecoglou. And one of the main reasons for that was the inconsistency showcased by a few Spurs midfielders. They did not step up when it mattered the most and let the games just drift by.

Yves Bissouma, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Pape Matar Sarr failed to live up to their expectations last season as Spurs finished just a place above the relegation zone in the Premier League. The trio were slow during build-up, and also failed to cover the ground while defending large spaces.

It is important to note that Thomas Frank relies heavily on his midfielders during build-up play. The Danish tactician lined up with three players in the middle of the field during his Brentford days last season, and relied on them to create chances from the centre of the pitch. So, bringing in a new midfielder is an absolute necessity for Daniel Levy as the club looks to compete hard on all four fronts next season.

Tottenham eyeing a deal to sign Atletico Madrid star Conor Gallagher

There is no surprise that Tottenham are looking to bring in a new midfielder in the summer for next season. With Yves Bissouma facing an uncertain future at N17, Daniel Levy is looking to bring in a quality replacement that would fill the void left behind by the Mali international.

It was reported earlier that Spurs were interested in signing Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid. At the time, the transfer links were not concrete and the Lilywhites were just testing the waters for the England international. The aforementioned report also stated that the 25-year-old was not looking to switch countries again just a year after signing for the Spanish giants.

However, the situation is different now and Tottenham might just land Gallagher in the summer. As per Fichajes, Atletico Madrid have given Spurs the ‘green light’ to secure a deal for the 25-year-old if a suitable offer comes in. The La Liga giants value the midfielder at £36m, and are open to sell him after he fell down the pecking order under Diego Simeone at the end of last season.

It is important to note that Tottenham are not the only ones willing to secure a deal for the midfielder. Everton and Wolves are also interested in signing Conor Gallagher and might aim to land the England international in the coming weeks. Signing the 25-year-old would instantly elevate the quality of the squad for next season.

The ex-Chelsea star would instantly become a starter at N17. He would be an upgrade in Yves Bissouma, and his ability to play as a box-to-box midfielder would help Thomas Frank in setting up the team according to his style. Gallagher likes to make late runs into the box while attacking, and also tends to cover ground in an attempt to win the ball back. The 25-year-old’s leadership skills are there for all to see, so that would be another factor that might tempt Daniel Levy to land the Englishman in the summer.
