Tottenham's Heung-min Son faces an uncertain future as the club eyes Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo under potential new manager Thomas Frank

MLS club Los Angeles FC have held talks with Tottenham skipper Son Heung-min over a possible summer move

Rumours continue to circulate around Tottenham skipper Son Heung-min.

The South Korean has been through all highs and lows with the club since joining from Bayer Leverkusen way back in 2015. He finally managed to get his icy hands on a trophy in May, lifting the Europa League after Spurs beat Manchester United 1-0 in the final in Bilbao.

It has been reported for a while now that the 32-year-old could depart the Lilywhites this summer, following interest from Saudi Pro League and Turkish Super Lig. Fenerbahce boss Jose Mourinho was also believed to be in contact with Son Heung-min as he wants to reunite with the forward in Turkey.

Son, who will turn 33 next week, has entered the final year of his contract at N17. The Hotspur Way chiefs are open to cashing in on their skipper, who has also piqued the interest of MLS side Los Angeles FC. They freed up a ‘Designated Player Spot’ for the Spurs star as well, after Olivier Giroud left the club to sign for French club LOSC Lille earlier last week.

However, according to a report from The Sun (h/t The Daily Mirror), Son is set to reject the advances of Los Angeles FC, despite him considering MLS a practical next destination in his career. The Tottenham icon is open to moving on but he will also wait for the right opportunity rather than make a hasty decision.

This is the last real opportunity for Spurs to get a decent fee for the South Korean international, and new boss Thomas Frank has also greenlighted his exit. If the forward decides to remain at the club and see out his contract, he will have to accept being a squad under player the Danish tactician.

Reputed journalist Alasdair Gold has confessed that Son is ready for a new challenge after fulfilling his dream of winning a trophy with the North London club. The Tottenham No.7, however, appears to be not keen on a move to Los Angeles FC and wants to wait for better opportunities. Certainly, he has earned the right to assess his options and make a decision that will be best for him during the twilight years of his career.

If Son departs, Tottenham would undoubtedly want to replace him. Antoine Semenyo was an option but he has signed a new contract until 2030 with Bournemouth. RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons is also reportedly on the club’s radar as a potential replacement for the soon-to-be 33-year-old forward.
